Well it is for us shooters.
After years of decline it's finally got to the point of being a big risk to shoot for them. So few buy and most rely on old content or pay so little to make it nearly pointless to shoot for them.
Had some great years in fact some very great years, but everything good comes to an end.
Thankfully we still have the Internet.
and you have just realised this?
Fuck man... It died YEARS ago...
and although you have met me, (but you dont really know me...)
I also shot for a lot of the top shelf publications myself...

:noway2:
We recently pulled out of ALL "Paul Raymond" advertising.
On top of that we just massively cut our "Forum" advertising, we're down to bare minimum with Forum now & are monitoring it's effectiveness very carefully, if things continue to decline we will pull out completely from all printed matter advertising which we estimate could be by the end of this summer.
Funds now being reallocated to online advertising (If you sell ad space message me as we are always looking for new advertising opportunities, funds are readily available)
:geek:
Most magazines were pretty shit for a long time, well to expensive, I'm surprised they lasted this long.
I remember about 10 years ago an editor of magazines saying that the internet would never replace magazines because you cant wank and use your mouse at the same time, the experience wasn't as good as a magazine.
I lol'd at the time and still have the odd chuckle about that

When they couldn't work out a way of stopping the pages sticking together I knew they were doomed........

Depends how many years we are talking about. It was still possible to shoot lots of sets and sell them to the US, UK and then second rights up to 3 years ago. Then is started to decline with more and more looking to pay less and buy less. Even in decline a good set was worth $3000.
The selling of PRO was the nail in the coffin for us.
Incidently, "Forum" (Trojan Publishing) advise us that they currently sell approximately 8k - 10k copies of the main Forum mag per calendar month, it has a cover price of £4.99 ....how many uniques does your site get PCM ?... as our friends in the States would say You Do The Math.

I just pulled the last of my advertising with Trojan. I don't believe any of their circulation figures...

It's amazing how backward some of them were, even up to 4-5 years ago. While PRO, Score and Hustler were making great money from the Net others simply believed it would never replace them. They learned the hard way.

I was wrongly assuming it was a web site. My mistake.
Phone lines used to be a license to print money if you got it right and could afford the advertising rates. They charged 100% over the top for phone line ads back in the old days.
And there was a waiting list to get a full page ad. :noway2:

The crunch was when PRO sold out to Trojan. Never had a problem with magazines not paying. They knew if they did not pay we would soon spread the word and that would not help. Plus stop sending them content.
A year ago, just before I learned about the cancer, I did a days casting in Prague. Shot 8 "Readers Wives" sets of 40 pics and made $300 a set and shot a cute girl who sold for $1,000. $4,200, not bad for a days work. Plus Internet sales which paid for the costs.

Just to add... the money that Trojan reportedly paid for PRO was peanuts, which underlines Paul's point. PRO had the best mag brands but didn't successfully transfer them to web or DVD (at least, it wasn't successful for them!)

The PRO web site was a good earner and had a department dedicated to it. They never had an affiliate scheme to worry them as promotion via the magazines did all the necessary marketing for them.
The magazines made a profit as well.
The rumor that went around, after Paul Raymond's death, was the family who inherited the business did not want any association with porn and sold it to the only people willing to buy it.
They never got into the DVD market, the magazines for many years were a license to print money which blinded so many publishers. Also solo girl DVDs, which is the main stay of the magazine market, is a loser on DVD.
