I was just checking my bank online and I notice my Orange phone monthly direct debit went out for £365.66!

I knew it was expensive to use a uk cellphone in US but I didn't think it'd be that much! all I can really remember using it for was to call a few people on Xmas day.

Did many people call you?, cos you pay the international price and they just pay the usual amount as though they were calling you while in the UK.

If it's anything like my mobile, it seems to go via the UK and then back out to where ever you are. Last year when I was in Crete I sent a couple of text messages to our best friends who were staying in Xanthe (about 100 miles away) - each message cost us £1 because it was going via the UK

Yes, Mrs SGS lives on her phone. Most of it is for business (she runs our production side) but then she moans just because I am looking for a new Factotum.

If your calls often come to that while overseas, its best to get your phone unlocked, and buy a sim card for one of that countrys networks. That way it does work out a lot cheaper.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com Plenty of useful stuff on there about cutting mobile bills whilst abroad etc... As lindy says, Buy a SIM for the country you're in... saves you tons!

Yes - I use mine a lot abroad, lets say you were stood next to me in Prague and I called you. My call goes back to the UK, then gets sent back to you, I had issues with Orange after coming back from Prague and disputed the bill.

They removed nearly 200 in charges, they were added to my bil as internet downloads though Orange said they had no coverage for internet in Chez.

It took over a month but was resolved in the end.
