3D tv is gash.

It's this year's hype from CES and only ONE of the tellies they had has a ship date.

No one wants the stupid glasses, until that problem is solved, there is no point.

Are you just reading the zoo and copying Gary's clueless posts there and reposting them here?

Avatar is pretty in 3D. Very pretty indeed. Entirely plot free, but pretty.

I think there's a special human emotion you only get from seeing a James Cameron epic. Something along the lines of "I can't believe I've been duped again into wasting three hours of my life on a plot this thin, and how long till I get a pee break"

Honestly, it's the Lion King, with blue monsters, dragged out to double length.

But pretty.

But asking if 3D will catch on is like asking if we really need colour photography as black and white is pretty good. We see in colour, we see in 3D. The End.

im in two minds about 3d, i think it will have problems while you need the glasses however it does have the added bonus that sky hd boxes are 3d ready and the only other thing you would need is a 3d ready tv which is just a hd tv that uses hdmi 1.4 and has a refresh rate of above 120Hz. because 3d uses two feeds im expecting the option to watch anything that in 3d in 2d as well so i think it is going to take on well. without glasses would be much better but thats going to be a while and require a total replacement of equipment to work

on a side note i love avatar, it looks amazing, the plots not amazingly think and has been done before but its not bad and its the first 3 hour filmive seen that doesent feel like 3 hours, see it twice and going for a 3rd time in the next few days as its not going to convert to the small screen well at all

If you had to wear stupid plastic nerdy glasses to see in colour, I wager it wouldn't have caught on. And I wager 3D TV will not catch on. At CES only one telly on show had a ship date. It will be like quadraphonic sound was.

well the only evidence at the moment would appear to back you up, when they released the first bluerays in 3d people didn't like them, they where using the blue red 3d though which is shit but people did still try them. i can see 3d even with glasses taking on

Clearly not, but one CES all the manufacturers went on about quad sound being the future etc. Funnily enough it isn't.

This will be the same.

No one wants to wear stupid plastic nerdy glasses to watch telly.

The difference is... Not having four ears, having four speakers adds very little to the experience. Once up to the same level as our senses, tech doesn't need to go any further.

Have you seen a 3D movie at the cinema? not a red/green one, but one of the grey/grey glasses ones. Way less nerdy than you'd think.

BTW, the kids have voted and like the glasses - they wander around town here wearing the frames with the lenses pushed out.

people didn't go to the cinema and pay 2 quid extra fro quad sound, people do go to the cinema and pay the extra for 3D

OK.

Yes, I have seen one in the cinema and have the cheap nasty black framed fake 25p rayban glasses in the back of the car. They are nerdy. I find it hard to believe dem yout' are pushing out the lens and wearing them. Not seen any of the 3x uni worth of students doing that in btown.

People will not want to wear them in the house. People will not want to have to get friends to bring goggles over if they are coming to watch a film. Kids will break them. You cannot lie on your side on the couch with them.

It is a shit idea that I believe will not work.

At the MOST the TVs will ship with 3D, and a couple of films, like Avatar will have a bluray release that has 3D and non 3D as an option.

The whole point is that 3D was meant to stop piracy and get people into the cinema. It's nothing to do with making the perfect viewing experience.

You are not making any points that convince me otherwise.

However, as only one TV has a shipping date, I don't think we're going to know which of us is right for a while.

See you back on this thread in 12 months for your apology.

a) "they" are not all the same. There are at least 3 competing standards

b) quad sound was never in cinemas, it failed long before it got there

c) people certainly DO pay for good sound in a cinema. I will always seek out THX certified for example.

Simon

Clearly not, but one CES all the manufacturers went on about quad sound being the future etc. Funnily enough it isn't. I'm sure they did, but that was just corporate hype. Real people just did the maths for themselves, realised that that was more speakers than they had ears and was therefore not that important. Game over.

one will end up winning though, im aware of to types, not sure what the 3rd is. once thre is one type you will be able to buy designer if you wish. i don't wear glasses but i think if you cant lay on your side using them then people wearing glasses cant anyway. there are already several tv's on the market that offer 3D when its launched, sky 3d tv is launched later this year as well so clearly they think its going to do well. when you buy a film in 3d as its 2 feeds there's no reason they wouldn't include the option to watch it in 2d, so if you have a tv that will play 3d and the discs are bluerays anyway and the 3d is just a few quid more, knowing u can watch it in 3d and 2d wouldn't you get the 3d version, if if you only watch it in 3d once or twice?

Not really. We are talking about getting one of the new 3D cinema standards into TVs. As announced by all the manufacturers at this years CES.

It's not splitting hairs. It's totally different technology, different hardware etc.

There a couple of sites in the US that have launched and are starting to generate revenue but as usual the first into a marketplace will reap the best rewards.Viewers wil have to wear the glasses for now until technology catches up but viewing 3D on your PC monitor without the need for the glasses is not too far away.I think it will be a great revenue generating opportunity if you can stand the entry level capital costs for the equipment. That said the ROI timeframe should be a lot quicker taken the novelty factor.:reading:
