Well, you would have, if Rage Against the Machine weren't signed to Sony.
So you sucked his bell end if you bought XFactor or RATM
What a brilliant marketing scam from Sony!
I liked the idea of people getting together, to stop some 'pap' being the Xmas #1...
But cant really say I thought much of the alternative (RATM)
What I think WOULD have been nice, would have been instead of ratm, the alternative was an album of traditional carols, sung by a traditional choir...
You know... Silent Night, Good King Wenceslas, I saw 3 ships, etc etc...
OK, call me old fashioned, and in a way, I suppose I am... But thats what I would have liked for XMAS :)

People were not getting together. RATM are signed to Sony. It was a marketing trick by Sony.
Oh OK, so Sony started the facebook group thing?
To be honest, Im so out of the loop on this one. I dont watch the X Factor, Don't listen to ratm and dont really listen to much music at all these days...
Except for Xmas, when I expect I will probably listen to a few trad carols :)

it was started by some guy making a video of xfactor people singing (dubbed) the ratm song. profits from the sale of the song went to charity as well

Well, supposedly it's some couple called Jon & Tracy who started the Facebook group to get RATM to #1. They tried & failed to do the same with Rick Astley year - copyright on Astley's music is held by Sony as well...
Fishy? Maybe, but at least a large chunk of the revenue from this prank is going to charity, so all in all I reckon it's a good bit of festive fun.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the same tactics could work for elections!
Vote Astley 2010 - who's with me?

Are you saying Simon Cowell owns Sony?
Are you saying Simon Cowell owns Sony?
No. I am saying that his company gives Sony loads of money.
By 2008, it was reported that Syco accounted for 70% of profit at Sony Music UK

I bet Simon was right behind the campaign to make him look like someone had slapped the smug grin off his face.

justr a thought....
whao cares???
for a start i am not the remotest interested in what the no 1 song is.
and for another, i have 0 interest in x factor or whatever its called.
x factor and strictly dancing are for those who are retaded. they can sit and clap when they are told to.
i have no problem with this.
in fact it proves my point that democracy does not work as so many people are clealy morons.
i may get ridn of my tv in 2010 as its realy only for the mentaly ill.
being an accademic i realise that its wasting my skills.
i need to concentate more on my accademic studies.
I'd have liked to have seen them choose a Cliff Richards song, i don't like his music but it would have kept his record alive of having a number 1 song in every decade since the charts began.

everybody likes cliff richards music.
i do.
i think people just say they do not, to look cool.
but stick on a record and i bet you would have a little sing a log to it.

Like most marketing people, you think marketing people are far clever than they actually are.
Even if the whole thing WAS started by some bright-spark at Sony, this was the first chance people have had to block the X Factor from producing a winner. I think it's a great result (but no, I didn't buy either of the singles).

Don't feel bad about fooling for it, loads of people did!

pretty much anyone signed to a major feels babylons cock in their bottom
woulda been far more interesting had it been a previously unsigned act
reckon guy chose RAM cus the 90's was probably the last time he had any fun,
last time he remembers swearing in public & feeling slightly rebellious,
last time he remembers shagging anyone that wasn't called "wife"..
any track that gets rinsed by a major for 15 years ceases to be edgy by definition..
wasted opportunity to bring global profile to a new sound or genre..
the whole thing has been engineered.. regardless of the outcome,
everyone is laughing all the way to the bank except the public sheep
