moneybookers has a fax option.

Get your own fax number and receive faxes instantly to your email!

All numbers are UK national rate:
UK access: 0870+ your number.
International access: +44870+ your number

Prices:
20 EUR / per quarter
60 EUR / annually - 25% Saving

and Denotos does, but they are a bit of a cunt. http://www.denotos.com/myf_beschr-en.php3

at the prices you might wanna consider a cheap ink jet fax thingie, depending on your number of faxes sent and received.

well, denotos is cheap at EUR 2.50 for 10 out/100 in monthly, but they are a tad weird, gave me a creepy feeling. no hassle with sending or receiving though.

I used to have a lovely programme for sending and receiving faxes but it doesn't work with broadband. I know this doesn't help but I thought I would mention it ;)

The simple way of doing it, is to use an old pc.

Plus in a model (not broadband)

And get a bit of softwear. I am not sure if xp has fax softwear built it, but I used to have a free prog on win 3.1, that would let you send and receave faxes. It even let people leave a message.

If you get an old pc, you could just leave it on in a corner as it should not use much power.

I used to send lots of faxes this way.

Its a great use for an old 486.

matter of factly you can (could ?) fax by definig your modem as a printer in Word for example. i recall trying that successfully in the Win98 times. you were printing into a file rather than on paper and that would cause the modem to dial out or ask for a number to dial to. not exactly comfy but dirt cheap.

Problem is that i do not think it will receave faxes.

as i say, its easer just to use an old pc, and find some free softwear, and leave it on.

To be honest i am suprised that there is not a small machine that plugs into your phone and into your pc so it can get faxes even when your pc is off.

there is a small machine that does that, it's called a fax modem. if it's a modem without fax option, you need the PC switched on to receive, while a fax modem will store the fax untill you pull it.

I never new that.

I have seen modems that are fax modems, but i did not know they worked even when your pc was off. how cool.

you are yanking my chain? those were around since the 14.4k times at least. with DSL you need a splitter unit where you plug in the DSL modem and a fax machine to use the same line, but DSL not using an actual phone connection like the modems up to 64k did. hence the issue with not being able to fax from your PC with newer internet connections, which made web based solutions more interesting for those with smaller amounts of faxes to send.

I knew you could send faxes with them, but i never knew you could receave them with your pc turned off.

I may have an old fax modem, i may give it a try.

what is the best way to put a fax into your pc. would you say a scanner.

depends what you wanna fax, if its a document you have at hand, you'll need to scan it in some way.

if it's a new document, create it using the suitable software and add a sig file to it. scan your signature and copy it on the document.
