That's because your honest, and pay your car tax and insurance.

Now if you were driving without a licence, car tax, mot and insurance, I think the fine is £50. Which of course you would never pay, or give a dam about.

It was in the local paper last month that some twat had stolen a car and killed a kid. He got £50 fine.

In Leeds (Harrogate road - going into Leeds) there is a hill. At the bottom of it there is a speed camera. As its a hill, cars naturally speed up, so people have to drive with the brakes on, they also have there heads down to look at the speedometer.

The result is that they do not concentrate on what is in front of them. The result is that people run into other cars and nearly hit people walking in front of them. Thus making driving more unsafe than before.

Why is it a joke?

You broke the law so you got the punishment ie: points on your licence

The only way having tax MOT and insurance would have helped is that he would have probably got banned had he not had them.

So people slow right down and hit people imagine what would happen if they didn't slow down and hit people.

Its fine for speeding camaras in "black spots" outside schools etc... i have no problem with that, but when there hidden away behind trees on motorways, there is just no need... its purely the money...

i would think that 90% of them are up for the money and 10% are there for safety!

What I am saying is that they hit people as they are not concentrating on the road but the speedometer.

I am not saying speed cameras are not a good idea for some roads, but for others it creates more problems.

I have been on roads where suddenly people start to break. Simply due to speed cameras.

The problem is also worse if you have anti lock breaks while the person behind you has just break pads. You can stop instantly, but the chap behind you, cannot. Thus runs into you.

Many of these will clock you for only going a few miles over the limit.

If you get a gps thing, you will notice that your speedometer is not accurate.

I drove a few cars at 40mph. Yet on the gps it said with some cars the true reading is 43mph or in others 38mph. Thus you may think your driving a legal speed but in fact you may be going a bit faster than you think.

But if you were not speeding in the first place you wouldn't have to concentrate on the speedo to insure you don't get flashed.

I got done for being in a bus lane a while back, there was no traffic and no buses and as I got flashed i was just coming out of the bus lane. It was a £50 fine and although I didn't want to give them £50 I WAS in the bus lane which is not allowed so I just shut up and paid.

If you are speeding and you get done then don't whinge about it just pay your fine and take your points. If you don't want more fines, points or even a ban DON'T SPEED!

I'm back down to three at the moment - but I got a letter this week telling me I'd been caught doing 53mph in a 40mph zone. Fair cop I suppose, especially since they've eradicated crime in the UK haven't they?

As far as Im aware, the law allows for a 10% differential thats why you should never get a ticket for doing 44 in a 40 because you can legally claim your speedo said 40.

Personally Im on zero but touch wood I have been lucky. Although I will say that since having kids my driving has slowed down considerably.

BTW here is a last ditch tip that might work. If you get pulled over and they want to give you a speeding ticket, say you are going to contest it. It may mean the copper has to go to court on a day off and they cant always be arsed with that. I know a guy who has got off 3 times doing that.

BTW mods, feel free to edit that last paragraph if it may cause potential problems ;)

I got 3 points about 6 years ago.

Thats the only crime I have done.

But as my cars are not top range (an audi 80 and an old nissan micra ) its not easy bto speed.

I think if you do have fast cars then its easer to go above the limit.
