Starts in a couple of weeks. With Honda being bought out at the last minute, a sudden change of engine supplier and lost testing time, Button could well be worth a punt for championship after Brawn cars top testing by some margin :noway2:

Button won't win the championship at all, let alone this year. It'll be a Ferrari / Mclaren 1-2 again, but not sure which way round. Hamilton's the best driver on the grid, Kimi 2nd (if he's not pissed!), Alonso 3rd. Button's not even in the top ten best drivers on the grid, he'd be lucky to win one race let alone 10+. Lewis again for me, but he'll win it with plenty spare this year. Also, I'd back him to appear on the new series of Top Gear, on a dry track, and go sub 1.40 in the crappy car! He'll be a legend in 10 years time.

Pretty much agree with this. Again will all be about Mclaren and Ferrari.

Hamilton to win championship again I hope :)

Vettel might be a good each way punt.

McLaren seem to be in some difficutly right now and are way down on the timesheets... unless there sandbagging.

Cars are very different this year and are almost starting from a clean sheet of paper which has the potential for some big upsets.

If anyone fancies a bet against me then I'm all ears.

Here's my bet...

My driver, namely "Vettel" will finish the F1 2009 season with more points in total than your nominated driver (Choose anyone you like, not fussed)

Open to offers on how much ££ is wagered.

I would not take that bet..

I think he is a talent and near future world champion :cheer:

As for Brawn (Honda) being top in testing.. means nothing at this stage. the rest will be "sandbagging" for now

given the times Brawn GP can do with basically the same engine, i very much doubt that the former Honda guys could manage to build a better car than McLaren. obviously KERS could cause issues, hopefully not though.

Usually true and may well be but...

1. They were the first to start develpment on the 09 car virtually abandoning last season.

2. They have the same Mercedes engine which won last years championship.

3. Ross Brawn would be a brave man to buy the team if he knew the car wasn't good.

4. Sandbagging or not, nearly a full second quicker is light years in F1.

5. Even the long stints are showing very repectable times.

Some quotes just released about Brawn after testing:

FERRARI:
Ferrari-technician: "They are one second faster than us. It can't be real."

RENAULT :
Flavio: "When I arrived here I was still optimistic as far as our chances are concerned. Now I am not optimistic any more."

WILLIAMS :
Sam Michael: "If they can repeat these laptimes in Melbourne which were set by Button on Wednesday morning during his long stint, Button and Barrichello will win the Australian Grand Prix by one lap advantage."

Mercedes :
Norbert Haug: "The team have had more time for developing the 2009's car than the others. It seems to pay off."

So 2009 WILL be an interesting year after all

But having said, that these anomolies do happen every year. pre season. can't wait to see

The most exiting thing for me, this year will be ....NO ITV :cheer:

i agree, touring cars is much better imo a lot more action and potential crashes, although id watch F1 just to see that hamilton stove himself into oblivion.

I want to see Raikkonen pull his fiunger out of his arse and actually drive his car properly this season...

That said my money is on Hamilton again if Raikkonen still can't remember where the fucking gas pedal is.

with the now new points system, i doubt any car parts are relevant anymore, apart from making sure your engines last for 51% of the races. what a blithering idiocy that move was. if the FOTA members ha any balls, they'd pull out of this farce and start an own league, the tracks are booked anyway, most the races could be held as planned.

S.D.
03-18-09, 12:48 AM
What a shit move, the following quote from someone on the Telegraphs site sums it up pretty well:

So a driver that wins nine of this coming season's seventeen races but doesn't gain another point in the remainder of races will be champion ahead of a driver who wins eight but finishes second in the remainder?

S.D.
03-18-09, 12:53 AM
Surely the BBC & all stations around the World will be crapping it in incase someone does win the first 9 races, why would anyone bother watching the remainder of the Season ?

Ok, that's probably not likely but in real terms the season could all be over with a fair few races remaining which will be crap for the armchair viewer.

not likely? may i remind you of the 2004 season? Trulli won race 6, race 1-5 and 7-10 were won by the Big Chin. the season would have been over after 10 of 18 races.

same in 2003. after 10 races, the Chin had won 6 times, Coulthard, Raikonnen, Montoya and Fisichella had won 1 each. 6 races left. yes, it took the Chin till race 14 to get the job done (Barrichello, Montoya and Alonso won 11 to 13) but the season would practically have been over.

2002, over after 11 races.

no, this rule is the most idiotic move in a long time. i ponder taking the Mosley whores to court for not ass raping the cunt with Ecclestone.

F1 died as a sport years ago and how manufacturers are going to justify spending such huge money on F1 while filling fields with unsold and unwanted cars can really only go one way.

There was a poll about this a while back that didn't go down well with fans so Bernie just took away the medals but kept the winner takes the championship.

the smaller teams aren't spending that much more now, and with all the cut backs, they should make ends meet.

it will however create 2 classes. the teams with big money and strict rules and the ones with a limited budget and lax rules. the lax rules to be modified at any time, should either class have too obvious an advantage. it's a piss take really.

-HF
03-18-09, 05:38 PM
nosey me also did a bit of digging. 1989 would have been a great season. Senna champion instead of Prost (76 pts/4 wins), after finishing only 7 of 16 races, coming 1st in 6 of them, collecting an amazing 60 points altogether.

Bit of a bump but McLaren are still looking extremely sloooow after watching practise :(

Bernie has them locked in and sponsors would not be happy so walking away isn't that easy. A couple of teams did threaten to boycott first round over a dispute about unpaid income but the poisoned dwarf said:

"If they come in here with a gun and hold it to my head, they had better be sure they can fucking pull the trigger. And they should make sure it's got bullets in it because, if they miss, they better look out," Ecclestone warned.

tad worrying. either MC has balls of steel and still takes the piss like not making use of KERS or they really fucked up the car properly.

Bernie knows it's the last roll of the dice and unless costs come down very fast there will be a breakaway sooner rather than later. Moto GP in the same situation.

I think they should be made to smoke tabs, consume fizzy drinks, and open and eat sandwiches in plastic triangle containers on the way round.

those diffusers are definitely helping

I imagine with a big diffuser at the back you can run more aero / downforce up front so your cars gonna stick to the track a lot better all round

no-one seems to have noticed that kovalinen in the first practice was up near the top then in practice 2 dropped to the sort of shit times hamilton was putting down

so that tells me theres at least one configuration that Mclaren car can get round the track as fast as the rest

They had the chance a couple of years ago but signed up for concorde agreement until 2012.

With sponsors already pulling out now, theres no way a new series can get off the ground in this climate... Bernie and Max know that hence being cunters right now and trying to split FOTA.

check the times, not the ranking. Kovalainen's time was + 0.766 behidn Rosberg in the 1st session, Rosberg then scratched 0.634 off his time in the 2nd try, so in fact it's more like + 1.4 - if that's their fast setup, they will be lapped.

Aussie GP has been put back until 5pm local time (for better viewing figures overseas although clock changes kind of screw that up for us).
so those afternoon times are pretty much irrelevent as race time is hours later when sun is going down/less temp on track.
