If you already have a business account with one of the high street 4 just go in and speak to them as they are all keen to make money out of you.

We're with natwest too, it was pretty simple to get opened as we had a UK business account with them.

Totally :) Although I've tried to change all my income sources to wires or epassporte. Still get the odd ccbill affiliate check through though.

yes

why?

Its just a good idea as you can keep your money there until you want to change it back in stirling.

Our NatWest one was easy to set up. But, if you plan to send out affiliate payments using your $ "checks", they are still drawn on a UK bank, so they are treated as foreign cheques and need to be processed accordingly.

I got fed up of telling the bank telers that us dollor accounts can be paid into a normall accout. I have had a few arguments when i told them how to pay them in.

Now I just give them the paying in book with the checks.

But never pay in single checks of less than $100 or its not woth it as you have to pay a fee too. But its better to pay a few in together as you only pay a one off fee on all the checks rather than seperate ones.

In truth its easer to set up a us dollar account with the same bank as your normall account as they can instenty trasfer the funs the same minute.

Fuck the banks got to Auctionchecks (http://www.auctionchecks.com) they charge you 95p per cheque or per batch. So a single cheque for $5,000 will cost you 95p and if you send 4 cheques of $5,000 each you pay £95p.

They usually turn them around within a few days, they are the bollocks, well I like them anyway :)

Dunno if you guys have this over there, I think they're an international bank, but I've always been very happy at J.P. Morgan/Chase. Way better than HSBC imo..

But I know a lot of people who use the service Geezer mentioned, the auction-named thing.

i have always been with natwest the annoying thing about it is you have to phone or go into the branch to do a transfer you can't have any online banking for currency accounts but I think this is the same with everyone

We opened both a sterling and a dollar account with Cater Allen (http://www.caterallen.co.uk/) in March this year. Very good experience to date.

Thanx everyone for your input!! I just use auctionchex at the moment but my check sizes are getting bigger with things like cam revenue so wondered if it was worth getting a $$ account. My business account is with Bank of Scotland which gives you free business banking as long as you stay in credit by so much but this doesn't seem to apply to their international accounts.

Sorry people my mistake, I normally check links before I "submit" but must have been in a hurry.

Anyway try Auctionchex (https://www.auctionchex.com/)

So how much are your cheques for?, I spoke to the guy who runs it recently and he said anything up to 20k is fine :)

The thing to do if you can is get an account in the States. Till 9/11 it was easy but since then it's near enough impossible. Instead of having our Switch and Solo cards they give you either a MasterCard or Visa as the debit card. The only prob is that private atm's like Sainsbury's etc. don't like them, as you have a US issued card with a UK billing address.. That's another fallout of 9/11. Also Paycom don't accept them, nor BT and other UK utility companies. In fact I must let Paycom know this as I can't even use my ePassporte card to sign up anyhwere with them... LOL

Citibank works great for me. Open a £ and $ account. Once the $ cheques have cleared, transfer them online into the £ account and then onto your own bank. The only downside is that cheques seem to take a while to clear. The good points are, no fees, transfer money when the exchange rate suits, they send you pre paid envelopes so you can post your cheques.

I tried Nat west and got pissed off with the charges.
