but...don't see any measures put in for those of us that rent from councils/housing associations ...our bills rise too, albeit, rent is not linked to any interest rates drop or rises, if theres been anything on the news about it I've not seen it!
I would put a letter in to your MP ;)

lol!
I bet this is rare nowadays or non existent....come xmas some councils would do a rent amnesty for december, dunno if it was a week's worth or a month's rent?
obvious, isn't it? not helping those having issues with their mortgage would only put them on the list for a council place, pretty much irrelevant who gets tax payer money, banks or councils. less administrative effort this way.
whether this is fair for those renting is another matter.

Had a cousin that had a mortgage...marriage split up, house repossessed council place at the snap of her fingers...I was on waiting list four years till I got my flat

isn't being a council tenant help enough...?? Dirt cheap housing at the taxpayers expense??

that's the point. people losing their homes puts them on the fast track for a council place. needs more staff power to handle it, which costs money, needs places to put them in, which costs money. might as well just hand the cash to banks and let people stay in their homes which banks most likely couldn't sell on anyway. a gamble to win time is all it is. 2 years down the line we will still be in the recession or at least not out of it that long to put enough money into the average mortagage payers hands.
until then there will be general elections mid or late 2009 rather than 2010, so basically shortly after people have been fed that the lefties made it possible for them to keep their homes.
2011 will be an interesting year.

not having a dig at homeowners or anything...
but this did piss me off
Been in my flat 11 years now
when i got the keys, asked did i have to pay rent in advance, was answered no
11 years on i get a shitty letter saying im in arrears by a month and threatened with a eviction order
emailed them about the fact how many they had on their books claiming benefits when they harass me, that pays the full rent on time every month! blah blah
was told i should be paying rent in advance when 11 years ago was told didnt have to
my last email to them was why did it take you 11 years to demand this and maybe the credit crunch is affecting you too? lol

that's an argument that always amuses me, just like those ads for places stating no one on hoousing benefits needs to apply. good lord, what more pleasure can you have than having your rent paid by the council rather than the tennant? rarely do you hear of councils losing jobs or wasting all their money on drinking. set up that the council pays you directly rather than the tennant and off you go.

How much is rent in a council place?
How much is rent in a council place?
I think in some areas they have to pay you to live there now.

not sure I got this right but sure I read somewhere that you had to be 3 months in arrears to be evicted?
by the way im not with council, housing assoc here, they tend to be more in rent then the councils. I have a one bedroom flat and people I know who are in a 2 or 3 bedroom house pay 100-200 a month less with a council place

housing assn here to i was comparing my rent for a 2 bed flat to that of the 2 bed house i shared with my ex strife which is council. my 80 squids rent includes heating and a service charge so the actual rent is only £65.
i was rather under the impression that housing associations supplied affordable housing ie dirt cheep!

Bit of a bastard this if you are a taxpayer, a saver and a renter. Triple whammy!
