what you actually going to do with it? i use the Motorola A925 (http://www.three.co.uk/handsets/handsetoverview.omp?subleft=2&header=PAYMON&cid=1069432171223) phone (prolly replaced in Jan by the A1000 (http://www.three.co.uk/handsets/handsetoverview.omp?subleft=2&header=PAYMON&cid=1096963176719)), which has an email client and a webbrowser built in and you get an office suite for it as well.

i'm tempted to get a PDA, but always come back to just using the phone, as it does everything i need.

it works as a modem with 384 kBit (UMTS, else it's slow GPRS) where available and can do wireless via bluetooth. don't use that much though, cos for WLAN i use the laptop. i like the ability to connect it to the laptop via USB and use the phone as modem where ever i am, should i feel going online just with the phone isn't enough.

Whats the connection speed like? Is it like dialup when you use the mobile as a modem

add on: GPRS can manage up to 171k bit, however if more than one user are logged in to the same transmitter, the GPRS slots are split between all users. up to 42 users can use the same transmitter, anyone over 42 will get the network not available error.

This is a nice discreet one that you can wear to the pub. Check emails and order your Bailey's at the same time?

Don't forget the "hands-free" kit for the DVT one.

I have a nokia 9300 as a 2nd phone and dont need a PDA at all now. They are bringing out the 9300i shortly which in my opinion will be hard to beat as a phone/pda combination.

They are a little big but Ive lost 2 phones in as many years as they are just getting smaller and smaller.

Bring back the old semi portables you could never lose them :)

My dad has an ipaq. Its very good. Looks better than mine.

But I got mine (see above) for £40, with contract from tmobile. I simply went from store to store till they gave me the best deal.

I alspo have a Palm. For me palm is way way better than windows pda softwear. And I still find I use my Palm more than my pocket windows.

I'm pretty sure that the contract is no more expensive. You just pay more for the handset and data you use?

I have this dude, been with it for 8 months now and only really just starting to realise the power of it - comes with built in wifi and will connect / find wifi networks as you roam.

Plus points - its just like having a Pc in your pocket, will dump all your data over to your phone through active sync.

Down side - power lasts no time at all - about 4 hours I took the phon on a trip and by the time I got home its was fucked as all the power had gone.

Its pretty good for checking mail stats etc though al lot of sites are displayed narrow, so for example if you browse B&B then the whole page is 100% of the width of the screen.

I thought you had one and broke it down the pub......

If I get one it will spur me on to making the pda version of this forum work properly ;) ... Atm there's a version you can view OK on PDAs etc .. but needs fixing up... :drink:

Amazon should be delivering some books to me with some scripts for these devices, you like code they reckon if you can do coding its dead easy to build applications for them.

Fact: After eating 50 boxes of haribo stripes, you wont need or even know what a pc is

I find the pull out keyboard sucks.

But as I say, it cost me next to nothing to get plus its insured, I do not care.

I left it in the garden when it was raining. But it on the heater and it works fine.

Its naff to phone people with it, but I swaped the sim cards over.

But if your going to buy one, I think ipaq is the best, but they cost a bit more, but I think its worth getting. As I say, my dad got one. At the time he wondered if he realy needed it. But he uses it all the time. His main use is with tom tom softwear.
