If its reduced there is a reason
probably been superceded by a newer model

The Digital Camera market is dead so lots of bargains to be had especially this time of year if you can wait for Jan sales even better

sounds a good buy though

They are so cheap now, that even a budget pro camera is cheap.

My advise is to buy a digital camea mag that reviews them all. I find this is the best way to buy a camera - see what somone who has tested the camera thinks of it.

Main advice is wait until the new year........

Came across this camera at www.cameraworld.co.uk
Panasonic FZ5B.....269.99 superb camera with leica lens and image stablise for 12x optical zoom..... Got its bigger brother last year as son's xmas present.... almost better than my slr....

A bit more than u want to pay, but as i said wait until after xmas.....

Yeah it does sound like a good buy, its no problem to me that it might have been superseded by another model. No need to keep up with the guy next door or flash Harry down the road ! if it takes good pictures / photo's and has a good spec that will do me

Never been that big on Cameras but i fancy having a dabble so to speak. I think i might pop out and buy it, that movie feature looks good ohhh I'm all exited lol

A camera is a camera is a camera. That is to say, they all record light and time. If all you want to do is that, then it should suffice. Nothing wrong with snapshots, but cameras like these are next to useless when perusing formal elements of photography.

If I were in the market for a cheap digital camera I'd go second-hand. For example, my local camera shop is selling an Olympus E-20 with portrait converter for just £200. This includes a 1-year warranty too.

A magnesium alloy pro-dSLR with an awesome lens for not much more than pocket change? No comparison!

Those old Olympus things are as slow as wood and colour repro was about as good as a church rubbing but fine if you are not using it to shoot content. We still have one here somewhere that had shutter lock at 15,000 pics (Olympus told us that it was 15,000 from a counter on one of the chips inside) and despite it being just out of warranty at 14 months old they still rebuilt it back to brand new free of charge.

Those things were cutting edge back when digital was quite new but just looking at that pic sends shudders down my spine.

Great for hammering nails in but even the wifes basic digital snapper makes them look like complete crap now.

I've managed to stop myself from impulse buying mainly due to the weather here in Manchester ! pissing down once again, don't fancy getting pissed wet through plus it might be good to do a little research

Looks like a nice camera cock-a-leekie but i might as well stare at the wall. I'm sure the spec out weighs the one i was looking at ? but would i need and use half of the features it has ? your talking to guy who might have problems removing the lens cap lol

Just looking for something that can produce nice sharp pics ! simple content of the girl next door with no knickers on. I know everyone says you just can't pick up a camera and start shooting pro content that's ok because the more amateur they look the better lol

I think my camera looked more modern than yours but hey i guess looks aren't everything lol

Yeah point taken on speed and technology, but my point was this:

Cheap compacts are great for snapshots, but this old E-20 would still be a better tool to learn the formal elements of REAL photography, without spending any REAL money.

Personally, if I were tight on cash I'd go with the second-hand dSLR every time. I couldn't live with a camera that doesn’t have a hot shoe or no IR focus option etc. but that's just me.

Horses for courses.

If all you want is sharp pics in a "point and shoot" kind of way, then it's easy - any new compact costing over £100 should do an OK job.

Have fun snapping.

If any of you Camera boffins want to give me some tips on what to look out for in terms of spec I'm all ears. What type of pixel resolution and all that shit, remember I'm not wanting to be the next ferro jean etc. just need to know what to look out for regarding producing standard content to be uploaded to the web

I would ignore all boffins..... if you want a compact. buy a compact

spending £200 and buying a good name you cant go wrong

Even for shooting web content a very good compact would do the job
an SLR is only an advantage for interchangable lenses and seeng the exact image you are capturing

For Pro's of course things are different

Yes the E10 or 20 would be fine for that and I have just spent an hour here trying to find one of our old ones (without any luck so far...)

I agree 100% - nothing wrong at all with a decent compact .. I keep meaning to buy another compact so I dont have to lug my dslr about the place - unless you have a specific purpose in mind a 2/300 quid compact will be more than ok.

having said that - you could pick up a 300d for not much more than that and see if the benefits of using an slr suits you or not..
