View Full Version : Upturn in people wanting to pay by Cash!?

Ok so I know we have only been trading a year but I am concerned that in the last week I have had three/four people a day wanting to send me cash in the post? So far I have not really responded to any of them because I wanted to check out what was the norm? Do you do this or is that a taboo subject? My worry is on proving their age or is the onus on them for that?
Dont want to get what appears to have been the best months trading for us yet wrong and would welcome some helpful advice from you much more knowledgeable people!?

Tell them cash is fine .
When they dont get any content and complain. Get their full address and home telephone number and then call them to arrange a full refund.
I bet you make a profit.
Or tell them to send cash to my address. I will handle all refund queries

i dont think since i began pissing around with all this back in 1996 i have ever had more than 1 person a month wanting to pay us by cash.

Ok, do you think I am that stupid! Any cash is mine mine mine! The question is whether I can be bothered to collect it when so many pay the proper way.. Then of course there is the age issue!

I would advise them to take the cash, and go and get one of hundreds of prepay mastercard accounts.
They put the cash on the card, then pay you via mastercard.

I've got a few regulars who can/will only pay this way, it's not just about not having a credit card. Set up a PO Box and add their passes manually, takes 2 minutes.
Good thread as it happens, cos I wanted to ask what you all do with those 'card declined' due to whatever reason. Anyone arsed to email them and arrange alternate payment?

I've noticed an increase for cash/cheque payments recently too, but didn't think too much about it.
Adding usernames/passwords manually only takes a minute and is easy for cash payments (done on the spot), for cheque payments it's more of a pain as I actually have to go to the bank...
Regarding the age issue, this is somewhat more tricky. I don't publish an address to send payments to, rather an email address to send queries to, I then respond with an order form to fill out. Customers then need to fill in the order form and sign it declaring that they are over 18.
I guess people could lie and say they are over 18 when they aren't, but they could do exactly the same when signing up via CCBill...

Already got the po box so thats not a problem and as you say manual is not a problem its the age thing that bothers me

Takes about 3-5 days from posting to receiving their pass but I'm not in the UK and nor are a lot of the customers. Not many send it recorded but that's their choice.

I take £, $ or €, it makes no difference which currency they pay in. They can pay in Mongolian tögrög (yeah I G'd it) for all I care. Some customers pay a year in advance, from $360-$440 depending when they joined.
There's no reason not to take cash, just like any business.
