How many times do you have to be told, there isn't, and never will be, any worthwhile HD on the net?
:)
It's a game changer for sure. We have three on order already.
Focusing will be a bitch with such a big sensor.
It also shoots in vanilla Quicktime h264 format not some piece of unsupported shit, like AVCHD or Sonys various XDCAM things that all need converting to something else before they'll edit in Premiere.

Fantastic.. Surfers are going to love that crashed PC effect..
clicked link and all went pear shaped this end.. :noway2:
Seriously, why would you want a stills camera that does video. like a video camera that does stills. No real pro would lose one in favour of the other. would they ??

you have a point.
but looking at the quality, i could see it being used.
if say you have a zoom lense or say a fish lense for instance then you could take some cool clips and mix them with your pro hd camera which you probably will not have such lenses for. plus its smaller.
i could see such as nater photographers shooting insects could make some interesting films.
while the image may be good, i suspect the sound will be poor.

Agreed.
I think the guy shooting is pretty good as well. Given that the shoot is well planned in advance I wonder why his choice was a stills camera that takes video over a regular HD video camera. Is he getting better quality from this than he would be able to get from a dedicated video camera? is it easier to use? more portable? etc

or it could be he was given one to use to promote the camera.

Show me a full 35mm frame video camera for under 60k.
I have an EX1 - should love it. it's a lovely camera, but the software and codecs are wilfully fucked by Sony.
Why the freaking hell does it need to shoot its own weird .mp4 files that ONLY Sony Vegas can edit natively? I can finally convert to .MXF and edit, but it took Adobe over a YEAR after the camera was released to get the codec into prem for native EX1 .MXF - But if the camera had shot .MOV - it could have worked on day one.
AVCHD has been out for 2-3 years, yet Adobe are still "working" on a codec - yet you can find work arounds on the net that can add a codec that "works" now.
For web stuff, native progressive and sRRB video is the ideal - fucking about with 701 and 609 colour spaces (especially when Prem doesn't fully support colour space OR conversion is a total pain.)
Simple answer: the video divisions are protecting their hardware edit partners. Every one of the problems go away if you spend 10K on Avid...
This isn't a rant at you - it's a vent at these manufacturers - We've been fucked around for a year by Sony and Matrox and it's sent me nuts. Not helped by haiving to speak to a nitrous powered canadian mental lady at Matrox - Actually owning the hardware being not enough to get support in the UK from those tossers.

Good point about the full frame 35mm thing but holding a still camera to make video would just seem wrong to me.
I have an EX1 too and use Vegas to edit as I also got frustrated trying on anything else. So until thats sorted i still use our Z1's or use Vegas 8.
I take your point about Sony and their compatability but if you use Sony and stick with them its the only choice for pro filmakers.
A catagory in which I do not place myself in BTW. I just make video for the web which doesn't need the huge budget on equipment that a pro or a wannabe pro thinks they need..
edit: not aiming that last bit at you :shaun:
That sample video also grumped me out - God it's annoying to endlessly see fashion photographers feted as if they are the definition of greatness. Bolt it to a race car, shoot a beastie on a 1200mm lens from a mile away. Anything other than a girl with her kit on. We have enough of that here already! LOL
OK, so they couldn't actually USE any of the stuff we shoot, but as I say, It's just a grump, and here's the reason...
A database joke. How do you store a model ID? As a string, a number or an integer. Answer. All of them, depending on the table. Sad thing is, it's not funny, cause it's true.

Can some Canon buff confirm whether my EF-S lenses will work properly on a full-size sensor?

But EF works full-sensor? I seem to have one of those too.
My favourite lens is EFS though. :(

Only a professional who could not afford to have the right kit. Can you imagine the sound quality. :noway2:

Presumably it accepts an external mic? So what's the problem?

Their are external mics and external mics. I doubt it will accept one that will produce quality sound.

pretty obvious. it won't take the good stuff. porn is only real porn when it makes your 7.1 sound system rock.
