Paul Newman has just died.

And he was modest too about his extraordinary charity work. In 1982, Paul Newman founded the Newman's Own range of salad dressings and sauces, but it was no vanity project. All the profits go to good causes. To date, that's more than £135m ($250m).

Yeah... and to think that he stumbled into the salad dressing business totally by accident (by way of a neighbour, who liked his recipe) - then gave all the profits to charity.

california itself seems to be more left. but holiwood has always had a more liberal politacal view.

i suspect this is due to the faxt that films are art and they hate censership, plus sexuality in holiwood has tended to be linberal (ie its been a safe place for gay actors). And of course drugs and such like.

This is a really good point. Of course the MAIN reason show-biz in general was jam-packed with "leftists" during the debacle of the Red Scare had more to do with the "creative" folks (writers, directors, artists, etc) - who first got into that sort of "socialist" thinking back in the 1920s - when it was extremely de rigueur. If you look at actors like Newman and Brando, they received their training from people who WERE politically active and very influential - and some might even call them Pinkos. Whatever.

Newman was always a progressive. Censorship is a huge issue for the Left, because the Right is always threatening to take away our intellectual freedom. People in the porn industry who DON'T support progressive politicians totally baffle me, as they're cutting their own throats.
