I am not sure if its the same chaps, but I hearsd about a site like this a bit back. If its the site I think, then they do get hits, but I am not sure they have worked out how to make cash from it.

Its one of those sites that it does not matter how many hits they get, there is hardly a profit.

But 60% was a joke. The amount of hits it is getting, it could have made a lot of cash from advertising alone.

Ha Ha Ha.

See the ideats that are trying to sell a moterised surf board.

"you cannot use this board on waves"

Newspaper article 'Its hard to use and hated it'.

And with that they expected the cash.

Man, I thought I was thick.

wtf??

motorised surfboard.

lmao that totally defeats the point of the whole sport.

motorised plank would be more suitable. Selll it to disabled people. They probaby got more sense, unless they got no arms to paddle.

It's probably unavailable because it's getting millions of hits from the TV programme. If he had any sense he could have sold ads off the back of that.

Its working now.

I must admid that they were stupid trying to get 60% of the site, as its been going a while and is well known.

I suspect that if they sold it ow they would get at least 1 million, simply because of the hits its getting.

A firm such as Natwest bank if they have any sense would buy it, and put on it info about student bank accounts as well as mortgages for ladlords.

I think this is one time those investers were total fools.

I'm still not sure why the baby party thing was such a good idea. What was unique about her product that it could be sold on the web and be worth lots of money? The student accommodation site had a lot more going for it, but nobody seemed to cotton on to the advertising potential...

I had to laugh at the first guy and his media box. I thought, wtf, it's a media laptop only from the same era as the ZX81...

Yes, silly berk did not even turn it on. So I was not sure what it did.

He said you could carry all your data on it. I thought I have a pocket pc that can do that.

I think the baby thing was a good idea. Look unless you spend a lot of cash on advertising, how o people see your site. She said her way of promoting the baby site was on childrens forums (now who would ever do that? cough cough).

I think if you got people to sell it like ann summers it would be low cost and you may sell more products.

Do not forget many women would not be happy to selll sex toys. But childrens stuff is different. Many mothers find it hard toi get out to shops and would find a nice ebvening with friends a nice night. In fact I could see more scope to this. It would be a good way for mums to meet people and support each other.

I think she had the right idea. The problem I see is that she did not have the experience to do partyes, and I wonder how she could cope with say 500 plus women selling her products and the legal and product problems that may arrise.

Lets face it, Ann Summers is now a shop store in many cities. They may have a website but I bet they still make the bulk from there shops and the parties.

With support, if they got into the usa market, I bet they will do big time.

They should have gone with the usa chap as he had more knoledge of the usa market and websites. Sure they may have gained 2% but that chap would not be as good to them as the yank.

And lets face it, uunlike some businesses that people have put a huge amount of cash and time in, I felt it was more of an idea she had, so 47% was still a good deal.

I just wonder what the guy was on about with the web potential though. Ann Summers is different - she offered something nobody else did at the time. This woman is not going to be any competition to:

http://www.mothercare.com/

Who already have lots of stores on the high street.

Don't get me wrong, good luck to her - I just thought the accommodation site was a better bet - but the guy did right not to go for 60%!

I would have bought the Big black box idea as long as it doubled as a portable karaoke machine and also vended drinks.

It was a good program. I also thought the website had more potential than the baby business but I think they are looking at the person as well as the product.

I couldnt believe the guy who was asking for the £100K for the shaving foam when he was already worth 4mill.

The American wasn't interested, the other guy was Theo, the Cypriot.

• This site receives 200,000 student visitors a month
• Advertise a banner on this city page from as little as £200 p.m. - click here

he sells his advertising too cheap - prob why he needs money.

Studies are a good target audience, they will all be looking for finace which many of them will apply for online. I see three sponsor ads tucked up at the top on the index, the big ads are paid slots thats his issue here in my view.

The lad next door to me runs a gaming site that he markets at uni and hes growing faster then I thought he would and making good revenues. He just hunts out and gives the studies sites that offer free gaming money/match bet bit like a porn LL or TGP.

I have not seen the programme though gone in front of three panels in my time looking for investment in a concept/idea I have conceived, been offered funding once (though was way to low), turned down once and one idea went on without me and went on to become Nochex. - which dispite my issues with the CEO the guys who did it took some big risks to get it off the ground.

Theres a lot of money out there and sooner or later I will get the thumbs up from one of them failing that then I will have to track down the angels these people tend to represent.

I think the problem is that he had been working on the site for many years with others.

It was a huge amout of the site he wanted.

As I say, a firm such as Nartwest would do well with advertising student bank accounts and stuff.

Your right (apart from Nartwest) but the guy didnt have the brains to mention he could sell ad space

how much was he offered?

He shouldnt be selling ad space he has ABC1's coming to his site, he should be reselling financial serivces. I was never student though I know the banks bend over backwards to get them in, finance them up so that they cant get another account other then with them and turn em into long term customers.

If he was smart and did a deal with say Barclays Student Account teams he could make a fortune and prob just carry on whats hes doing and enjoying building his biz.
