The wife wants to run a blog for the family. She needs it to be simple and quick to update with text and pics.

Can someone recommend what the latest and greatest scripts are?

invites are few and far between but i think i have one spare

or just install it and host it yourself. not hard.

I love wordpress - customisable and plenty of free skins and plugins available to tailor it to your needs :)

Porn is only a problem if you use their Blogspot free hosting. If you just use Blogger.com as a tool for publishing to your own webspace there's no problem.
