I heard of a webmaster receiving one of these emails the other day and just found this post on Ynot so thought i would post it here and hopefully prevent someone from catching it. Don't think anyone around here would be stupid enough to actually fall for it ? hmm
They're calling it the worst internet virus/worm of 2005.
•It effects Windows/PC users...not Mac or Linux.
•Its PARTICULARLY AIMED AT THE ADULT COMMUNITY AND MARKETPLACE because it arrives in form of an OFFICIAL LOOKING EMAIL NOTICE from FBI/CIA and says that the user has been detected visiting WEBISTES WHICH HAVE BEEN DETERMINED TO BE "ILLEGAL SITES".
•It instructs the user to click on an attachment,a survey form and return the form to the FBI/CIA office immediately.
•When the user opens the attachment,the worm disables all security software and opens the machines ports to receive
any and all types or other rogue viruses online.
•The worm activates the machines FILE SHARING FEATURES MAKING USERS FILES/ PRIVATE INFO WIDE OPEN FOR INTRUDER THEFT.
•The worm then send the SOBER-X worm to all the addresses
in the users email address book.
•The worm PREVENTS THE USER FORM VISITING SITES WHERE REPAIR AND SECURITY SOFTWARE PATCHES ARE COMMONLY AVAILABLE TO USERS.
•ITS A WORLD WIDE ATTACK with the UK and Austrailia seeing it in a similar form of a gov.agency notice.
Btw, FBI /CIA HAS DENIED SENDING OUT ANY SUCH N0TICES AND HAVE ALERT MSSGS ON THEIR SITES OF THIS NASTY WORM CALLED SOBER-X.
