Looks like a week about George Best when he dies.

It will be the usual media thing. For the last few years the media had him as an alcoholic, and why he should not get a new liver. When he dies it will be all George Best the hero.

It was like that when Diane died. Before her death she was a slut. When she died she was a saint.

I can remember the 68 European cup final as if it was yesterday and went to see George Best play a couple of times when he was at his best but I struggle to have any sympathy for any asshole that drinks himself to death I am afraid.

well heres one post about him.....

Over rated..............and only a legend because of off the field antics

I could name 30 players better than him in my opinion

but here are 10 that were far better

Dalgleish
Pele
Maradona
Giggs
Gerrard
Rossi
Gascoigne
le Tissier
Cruyff
de Stefano

Bollocks to best, he was given a chance that more deserving people should have had.

He took a liver and fucking abused that as well. Although I wouldn't wish death on anyone, he is lucky to have a second chance and now he is fucked.

I never thought he was that great a player either, yeah in his time he was seen as great because there was no competition. he would probably be a 1st division player now.

Funny thing is, they are donating his organs, not sure who the unlucky cunt will be to get his liver

George had a drinking problem that couldn't be cured no matter what was done to help him... How many others are like him that we don't hear about because they're not celebrities. The guy had charisma whether he was a well known footballer or just being Joe Public.

I can say that his death has touched everyone who knew him personally. I was close to him in the 80's as he was a partner in a club called "Blondes" here in London which I visited most nights of the week. He then opened a small bar, "Besties," round the corner to where I lived with his then girlfriend Mary, who had been a friend of mine from the early 70's. This is when I knew Callum as a kid. George and I only lost touch when he finished with Mary for Alex and I was upset about that, as she was the only woman in his life who did manage to control his drinking, and believe it or not he was sober 99.999% of the time. He also played a mean game of snooker which we often played late at night at a club in County Kilburn :)

As someone who knew him, sober, pissed, in good and very bad moods,I feel very sad today at the news of his passing... No matter what

Well said.

I met him when he was with Mary and he was a great personality.

Sadly the demons got him in the end.

There but for the grace of God....

For me, I liked the guy a lot. We all have a weakness, whatever it is, sometimes we recognize it, sometimes we dont. In fact we probably only do at our convenience, as and when it suits us.?

Besty tried to tackle his addiction, he failed. He was a great footy player and a likeable person. He was human :onguard:

RIP Besty.
