this did confuse me a bit as many of them i had not seen, then i read the user comments at the end.
its actually a lost of offensively stereotypical British figures in american advertising.

if i had to choose the most offensive adverts shown on british telly, it would have to be the ones that are really, really obviously made for overseas markets and just given a tacky voiceover (or in the case of american conglomerates - not even that ... the gillette adverts REALLY, REALLY grate!)

when i'm the boss of the world, things will change!

We recently had satellite installed so we can receive TV from Florida. I was amazed how many adverts use British accents, it's almost every other one.

US TV and especially the commercials are very eye opening with respect to how those from the US live. It's pretty scarey really.

Do you think ads reflect how people really live? You need to get out more :p

If I believed the US ads I'd think every Brit drives a Rolls Royce, has a spotless kitchen and knows the Queen.

It's the more serious ads that make me wonder; cars sold as 'econmical' because they do 22 mpg around town.

Slop portrayed as a healthy meal for all the family replete with smiling kids, next a commercial for a meals on wheels diet "freshly prepared" delivered to your home for those too lazy to do anything about their obesity.

Followed by a $10, call now toll free, exercise gimmick that makes you look like Arnie within 4 weeks with only 10 minutes a day.

It makes me laugh anyway.

Dunno about adverts, but I fucking cringe whenever a non-English film has British people in it, every cunt speaks with a plum in his mouth (the vegetable variety). I was reminded of it when someone said about the film indepence day, with our lot saying something like 'by jove, they've gone and cracked it chaps! A co-ordinated strike by the americans is being planned, about time, what what!'

I literally fucking cringed with embarassment. Also Mark Lamarr was interviewing eddie murphy, and eddie did a piss-take of mark lamarrs 'cockney' accent. "oh yah, sooper" was about the gist of it. I like eddie murphy and think he's quite a funny cunt, but I didn't realise he was fucking deaf...

The stereotype is that the British are classy and refined (despite the fact you are sufficient evidence to the contrary) and anything they endorse warrants a premium.

I don't really see it as offensive. British accents are used to sell all kinds of crap here.

Or they're punk rockers who say "blimey" and "bollocks" twice in each sentence.

Talking of stereotypes, there's a new Guy Ritchie movie on the way. I loved Lock Stock, and Snatch almost as much, but there are only so many loverbull cockerney comedy-gangster movies you can make.
