bloody great after owning my HP laptop for 13 months it goes tits up - 1 month after the guarantee stops

least it only needs a new board! only bloody £400 grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so do they put a timer in these things so that 1 month after the guarantee finishes so does the bloody thing!

is it worth spending £400?

a new one aint going to be a lot more.

Tigger

its a top of the range HP - new still think they cost £1200 so yes its worth fixing - but only just.

Its just bloody annoying that ONE FUCKING month after the guarantee runs out the thing goes tits up

this is why the lil extra for extended warranty puts a mind at rest.

buy dell

they seem to last

also unless you need the power, buy a cheap laptop, and a decent desktop.

I was temped to drop the pissing thing but as I was working away and it just stopped hoped (LOL) it was a minor problem so didn't want to use my trump card " Oops sorry insurance company was walking down the stares and it slipped" - so cheers DVT - it was my first thought

least its tax deductible

Dells are good, plus they take a lot to smash (see last comment regarding dropping down the stares ;o))

but I wanted a hi-res screen so it would work better in the sun here and the HP was a lot better than the dell - hence the reason for going for a high end one

I thought by the title of the thread you had found a new use for old laptops?
Was hoping for a demo video or some pics:noway2:

I spent 750 sterling on my latest laptop......it blanked out.
My more technical mate and I very expertly and with full care re seated the ram...(a common thing, allegedly.) It didn't work.
Took it back to supplier...two days alter got it back....they told me they'd had to reseat the ram..a common thing don't ya know!)
Utter bollocks...we had a look...it was a new board!!!
Most of which are made by the zillion in far away places by factory workers.
Cunts!

Is it worth looking around for a second hand one just for the mother board on ebay or something????

i still would contact hp or who you got it from.

while it may be out of the 12 month thing, they may fix it. I would claim that it went wrong after 11 months and you contacted them but did not hear anything, so your contacting them again.

LOL no luck sorry

The first thing the guy in the shop said "oh its the motherboard, it common on laptops"

Gary

did think that but for £400 its not only going to be good as my HP, just means the bargain price I screwed PC world is suddenly not so good - just have to wait 4 weeks now before I get it back, fortunately I have a spare pc or three

I did say to my wife after we walked out why she didn't bash him over the head with her bag but she replied "he was fit" :P

It may feel like I post after most posts you make pointing out your idocy, but, if you stopped being so wrong, I wouldn't have to.

a) no, they are not cheaper
b) they have different voltage
c) they would have a japanese keyboard layout
d) it would have a jap version of the OS, so all the menus, error messages etc would be japanese.
e) they service agreement/guarantee would be useless

I thought you weren't allowed to post except on Fridays?

How do you know he hasn't got lots of money to spend and therefore price is not an issue.
He may even have an voltage adaptor/changer thingy or two.
He may be able to write Japanese and therefore be able to use the Japanese keyboard layout.
Likewise the Japanese OS, menus, error messages would not present a problem.
He may speak fluent Japanese and have a holiday home there, hence the holiday suggestion,
so the service agreement/guarantee would not be useless if the laptop was located at his holiday home in Japan.

It may feel like I post after most posts you make pointing out your a cunt, but, if you stopped being a condescending twat, I wouldn't have to.

Heheh.

psl is the new xcite.

Philip, darling, I have you on ignore. Although I bet 100 quid your above post is aimed at me.

http://img.skitch.com/20080805-ggi66e87p3shbwpbr71jagpt4p.jpg

I can't see it.

I bet a further 100 quid you fucked up on "its" or "your" in it though. Or called me a cunt or something clever. Bless you.

Now, I know we had our differences, but as I view you as ultimately pointless as a human, I put you on ignore. Since then, I have enjoyed this place more and more. I recommend you put me on ignore as you clearly have no interest in my opinions on anything, and stop replying to my posts as I can't read them.

Although it hasn't stopped xcite in 8 months.

Maybe you two could have some sort of competition? That would be nice.

Damian was correct in stating why buying from Japan would be a wrong move... & I was about to quote him & state... yes quite true!

As that was a true answer im not going to say any more on Damians statement apart from it wasnt idiotic, it was me trying to be helpfull... Appologies to Tigger for myself giving an idea, that wasnt very usefull!

On the other hand, Divvy, why even make a comment??? To get your sig up???

Hey Damian, How many useless threads are there of divvy??? :gaylords:

If its only been 13 months then you may well have a case to make them fix it whether it is in warranty or not - in the eyes of the law a £1200 laptop should last for more than 13 months therefore you could have recourse under the Sale of Goods Act (or something like that). Look into it further - might take a few hours but might save you a wad of cash!

This is more of a responsible attitude of consumer complaints, & to be honest, I certainly wouldnt have thought it right for a motherboard on a PC or laptop to go down 13months on! Looks like you could find you can get it sorted for nothing or a call out fee, Tigger!

Good luck bud, what ever happens... I have so much work on, that I wont be on here for a week or so!

It could go tits up a week, a month, a year later, or never, but the warranty is for 12 months. If it shits out after 12 months why should they fix it for nothing?

maybe true, but I got it in the UK & now live in Spain so its really not worth pissing around with it and by the time you factor into flying back, hiring a car and lost income from not working and putting up shit UK weather I'll just pay the sodding £400 plus its in the hands of the repairers now
