Might be a bit of a newbie question but then I am Mr Newbie.

What is an acceptable ratio for visitors to sale. I know that this can depend on many things and ideally 1:1 would be great but is there a target that you aim for or expect when you say open an affiliate program.

Thanks.

The problem with ratios is they mean nothing, I mean you could get 20 visitors per month and get 1 sale. So you have a ratio of 1:20 for the month. Sounds great and it would be had you sent 100,000 uniques.

I suppose you should be thinking anything from around 1:500 to 1:2,000 but then it could be less or more. I have one sponsor who I am at 1:24957 or something crazy like that :noway2: and another I am at 1:447.

So this was a long winded way of saying "how long is a piece of string?" :)

I wouldn't get into all that ratios bollocks anyway, just worry about the money in the bank, you could spend all day looking at stats and ratios etc when you could be building and making more sales.

Its not so much about clicks to join.. its more about cost per click. As some sites give you rebills, others just a flat payout. You need to take you total revenue and divide it by the unuiques. Obviously you need to compare sponsors over a decent amount of time as rebills take time to kick in, so pay per sale will always look better at the start but rebills hopefully will build up.

My best cpc is Intense Cash at 32 cents but some are as low as 3 cents.

Thats the best way to measure who makes you the most but for ratios, unless it rebills very well or has a mega high payout, I personally expect 1:800 or better on free traffic and 1:500 or better on avs traffic. Never do tgp.

I think it depends on too many things to say anything meaningful. Out of my main sponsors last month, my best converted at 1:147 and my worst at 1:899. That's with traffic which comes from SEs, toplists and traffic trades with other free sites. Other forms of traffic generation I imagine would produce entirely different results.

It does depend on traffic source and how you market it. Its worth pointing out that ratios mean nothing unless its in greater numbers. Ive always been told that you need to send a min 5k clicks before you can begin to judge ratios.

I would say more like 25,000 uniques

It's got so many variables it's impossible to give an answer. It can also be effected by your knowledge of a niche and the way you present and promote it.

Spot on.

Surely that's Earnings Per Click ;)

True enough to a point, but if you have a solid rebill base, and eg the latest 26,000 uniques you send produce 5 sales, your rebill base slants the EPC. EPC is my primary guide, but you do need to keep an eye on ratios to see if a tour has changed and isn't performing, a site is becoming pushed by 8000 eastern blocers, and so on.

Yeah that sounds more realistic. Ive always been told 5k though. But Ive started a new sponsor last week and sent nearly 4k of hits, but yesterday my ratio was 1:1000 now its back down to 1:650 so its still jumping around, so I guess the that disproves 5k as the figure.

Of course I do agree ratios still matter. But with EPC (sorry I got that wrong LOL) you can easily see if youd make more money with other sponsors even though the ratio is not as great. I do drop sponsors that dont perform well, I often feel Im wasting my traffic and could do better.

I think it is what you bank each week that matters. I will admit I get way too stuck on ratios and figures.
