With petrol its due to increase demand and a decrease in the product (not less product, simply that those that suply it are not bringing up as much as they did).

But we produce our own electricity. So why has that gone up?

And I thought we had our own gas supply and even only just opened up some sort of kikk as pipe to increase supply.

What do you think they use to make electricity?

The companies don't just plug into the earth you know, they have to generate it

The price hikes now are only to catch up with the increase in wholesale energy prices that took effect around Jan/Feb time. More, probably bigger increases are to feed through by the end of the year.

I dunno as I understand uk used to get a lot of gas out the north sea
now we get it from Russia and they nationalised the gas company and put the prices up

I guess as places develop, demand worldwide increases prices will go up, supply and demand..

because its defined as a commodity, and whatever happens on the commodities markets to the main supplies (ie oil ) then affects the price of all other commodities, hence the price rise in gas and elecy

gas is indexed through the oil price: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fee620d2-528c-11dd-9ba7-000077b07658.html

Who cares?

If you can't afford gas and electric, tough!

You will get people saying "we have to sit in the cold with blankets over us cos we can't afford to heat the place", while lighting up their 65th fag of the day and opening their 14th can of lager for the evening.

If people honestly cannot afford it then they should get a box and fuck off to a shop doorway.
