did you hear about this story (http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/53968/Name-change-ruling-for-Tula-Does-The-Hula)?
some kid was named Tula does the Hula and got it legaly changed. She is from Newzeland.
Other top names from newszealand are two wins names Benson and Hedges, and two other kids called fish and chips. I think another was called the no 16 bus stop.
Personaly I think they are great names.
My kids are going to be called Animal and Kermit.

My flatmate told me about it today.
Dunno what it is about New Zealand and weird names, but I was over there last year when a couple were trying to name their kid "4real" - it was rejected by the registrar so they decided on "superman" instead... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6937327.stm

So if you are adamant and you will not budge on your choice of name what happens, do the government choose a name for your child

Good question but I don't know the answer :-(
I guess there must be some penalty for failing to regsiter the birth of your child within X days of birth, but I don't know how it would work in practice.
Not wanting to draw stereotypes but a fine of say a few 1000 £££s could be enough to change the minds of the type of people who name their kids stupid things - failing that and someone really is that stubborn, maybe that state could just decide to name the kid anything they liked - I'm sure there is some do-gooder in a government department somewhere who has this exact job...

We have the same thing over here about registering, I think you have 6 weeks to do so and then you can be fined. We took a lot longer than that with our daughter and there was no fine, but if I wanted to call my child doggyflogbogface, who the fuck can tell me no... oh yeah, Big Brother
