View Full Version : Length of domain registration can hurt your rank
Was reading that Google now take into account the length of registration when indexing and ranking a web site ? I always register for one year and i let a lot of them go when they come up for expire. They claim that legitimate domains are often paid for several years in advance ?
Web site's that are only registered for one year, are more than likely being used as Doorway's ! therefore the date when a domain expires can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain

well, it's a known fact that spammers and cloakers use domains until they are burned out, read blacklisted left right and centre, and move on to the next. funny when you happen to register a domain of that sort later on, we had that luck once already. a bit of mailing and explaining that we are not the previous malicious owner did help though.
so i can see the point of one registrations being more suspicious than long term ones. OTOH once this becomes too much of a nuisance, spammers and cloakers will just reg for several years. not like the 9 bucks or less for an extra year would hurt much.
There's been speculation about this for over a year or so .. I've got tons of never-used domains that have been reg'd for 2yrs+ ... wanna buy any? ;)
