Email mailings?

Okay, i'm having a play with using mailing lists at the moment, i know that there are a couple of experts here. so please can i have a few tips on how to compose a killer email? (also what sells, what to avoid? basically a beginners guide would be nice!)

i'm starting out small, i've a large list of yahoo groups that i've joined over the years and rather than manually submitting to them like i've done before i've finally found a way to automate it (bypassing the yahoo groups mass mailing controls) so basically i submit to yahoo and let them do the mails for me.
like i said, i'm starting small and taking it easy as i dont know the best way to make the most of an emailing and also trying to keep within sending out "solicited emails"

yeah, i know what you mean but you have to join a group to get the mail and you also have a tickbox to stop the mail being sent to you, the thing about yahoo groups is that they make it very clear that you'll be getting the mail and how to stop it if you wish.
also its better than the proggy i saw and thought about (for a split second) before deciding it was too dodgy that harvests e-mails from the net and newsgroups! :D

Sending unsolicited email to a yahoo group MIGHT be within their ToS but it's just about the opposite of best practise. It also will not yield you good results, and might be against the ToS of some sponsors. I certainly wouldn't let anyone promote any sites I work with via this medium.

Yes. And you will be amazed how quickly it builds up.

It would be illegal to send to that list and not worth it anyway. (Unless there is a broker that does the sending for you, and I don't know of anyone in adult that does that).
