Am I not correct that there can only be 12 regennerations of dr who before he dies?

we are on the 10th now.

I am sure in an old epesode that fact is revieled.

you are correct although the master is well beyond his 12 and uses other means to prolong his life, normally by posessing bodies

it also means he can have 13 bodies, as the 13th is the 12 regeneration.

As long as the show is still bringing in the viewers, Im sure a rewrite of the 'rules' wont be to long in coming :)

From tonights "finale" I would say they had decided to do just that with Catherine Tate, but when the series went to air they realised people fucking hated her in it. I think they then had to reshoot the ending so that she was fucked off and David Tennent lives to fight another series, or at least a Xmas special and a few episodes of the new series.

What they've also done with the "clone" left in Rose's reality is left an ever open opportunity for "guest" spots with Tennant when the current dr regenerates.

Tennant was already filming the christmas special in April, so no.
