Ok finally cracked the HDV playout on WMV9
Let me know what you think of the quality....CRT monitors will not be as good as LCD but it should be a big leap forward whatever you view it on
Thanks all...

Plays full screen on my 19" LCD. Decent quality but 5mb for 20 secs...
HD is gonna need some fast connections and you'll burn some b/w.

connections will be there in a few years. i read a report the other day that Germany's Telekom for example is working on a glass fibre network which is supposed to give the single user 50 gig bandwith. about 8 should be enough for HDTV over IP IIRC.

the quality is great. :atm:
Not bad at all dude. Have you got a non-HD version around the same file size for comparison?

bandwith is cheap enough not to be a factor
Superb quality and provided you put up 640x480 versions for slow DSL users quality like that is a real money maker. Some of the full length downloads inside our members area are already 1.5 gigs. Bandwidth is peanuts and there is huge growth in faster broadband speeds and surfers that want the best possible quality.

:) :)
640 X 480 will be there too.... that one was 1440x1080 :cheers2:
Quality of the HD version is excellent on my 19" LCD and my 10mb Telewest connection :)
looks *very* nice...19" Dell LCD here
looks great!
but Im not sure bandwith is cheap enough not to be a factor. If 20seconds equals 5meg then when someone downloads a 20 minute movie then that will be 300gig. I think I do ok with my bandwith price of around 17cents a gig. So if a member downloads just one movie that will cost you $51. Lets face it if a member is a member for a month they will download every movie you have.....So if you have 10 movies, it will cost you $510 for that member who has paid $29 (minus affiliate fees)
Ive had a few beers so my calculations could be wrong.

unless i'm missing something, i think you'd have to be paying by 95th percentile instead of per gig in order to remain profitable offering only huge movies like that to broadband surfers. prob even need 100 Mbps once it got bigger.

Before we get into the bandwidth argument can we wait to see the size of the final files
I can make them much smaller without significant loss

Judging on the last one, I cant wait to see it :)

There is smoke coming out of my edit suite now, working on HD galleries
(smoke is from the coal)
5 years ago when i was working for 1 of the major telecoms companies, we had 20meg per second running in controlled enviroments over existing adsl (broadband) links... the key to faster speeds is not really the technology... its bt's willingness to invest and roll it out...... look how long they delayed broadband!!!!! becuase the hadnt recooped their investment from ISDN... tossers.....
Vid looks great, but currently too big file size..... but buy originating at best quality possible your future proofing your investment in content...plus when u come down in file size for current market because the quality of original was high then the smaller files will be good too...
For me its a waiting game until I go HD... I have quite a large investment in Canon XL mini DV which needs to be recouped before splashing out on new formats.....Also think there will be a few years delay before bandwidth really comes down to an acceptable bandwidth level, as there have been no new undersea cables laid for 5 years, operators have concentrated on squeezing as much bandwidth from existing cables.... and also mopping up the excess capacity thats been around for a few years.

We have been adding HD video to our members area for a while now (smaller file size as above as xcite-tv has already pointed out) and the members love it and have raved about if from day one. It has certainly added to our overall turnover and we see it having a very large impact on conversions as we start to roll out more over the next few weeks.
The cost of HDV cameras is just so low now that the extra turnover would pay for several of them every month with ease.
Trouble with HD vids is that my eyes just aren't as HD as they used to be

But your boobies are. :eyebrows:
Sadly they ain't as high density as they were twenty years ago LOL
Oh well it didn't look much better to the "low" quality one to me, perhaps I need the mince pies checked ;)
