It looks like you young'uns are about to see your first full-blown stock market crash and recession. Thank you, Wall Street.

The question being: how will this affect our industry? We've never had to deal with anything on this scale before... will people simply cut their spending, or are people going to go out less, so spend more on home entertainment?

When times get tough people do make cut backs across the board in any way they can, I honestly don't think that porn is anymore immune to cut backs by Joe Public than any other industry.

On top of this banks are cutting back on their lending in terms of loans / mortgages etc,etc & more relevant to us on "Plastic" they are being much more cautious with regards to credit limits as well as to whom they will grant credit to in the first place.

There's a lot more shit in the system right now that the institutions are desperately trying to cover up (Apparently a big UK bank is about to go tits up within the next month on a bigger scale than Northern Rock)

So all in all the same amount of us will be fighting over a smaller Pie which will in turn result in less of "Us" in the longer term.

That's a good point. I might start a "give unlimited credit to morons" campaign.

Could be potentially very difficult as the shrinking number of buying surfers are coinciding with the enormous growth in free content and delivery methods so it’s a pretty unique situation. Could be a double problem which feeds upon each other.

Porn sites are actually great value for money, especially compared to other sorts of porn delivery systems.

But can you imagine a family making ends meet and the Mrs finding out the bloke is paying out every month to a porn site? Plus maxed out cards

Actually, we're quite lucky. We have enough reserves and other revenue streams that won't be affected by a slowdown, so we're not worried.

It might even work out in our favour, as our main site is free, so we're expecting a big upturn in memberships as the slowdown hits. It'll be interesting to see if some of the swingers paysites go belly up.

The banks need cash. Surfers need porn but have maxed out creditcards.

Watch them suddenly push prepay payment cards like fury. Everyone goes away happy.

BTW. Its not a real global credit crisis/recession till an a major airline has gone bust.

Funny, I was just thinking to myself earlier today: Is porn 'recession proof'? Yes, is my answer.

Porn doesnt have to be recession proof if you can get it for free. :twocents:

I hardly think people who have maxed out their credit cards will suddenly find themselves with pocketfuls of cash to buy pre-pay! Besides which, these pre-pay cards won't pass any kind of age verification test, which the processors are going to have to start implementing pretty soon.

Britain and America have become credit-mad, unlike most developed economies. If the economy goes sour and credit dries up, we're between a rock and a hard place.

It has already & in the next 6 months it's gonna really start filtering through to the average man (Porn surfer) on the street :noway2:

I hardly think people who have maxed out their credit cards will suddenly find themselves with pocketfuls of cash to buy pre-pay!But they do. Spend 10 mins watching people pay in a garage* and you'll notice loads of people buying a fivers worth of petrol with cash. You know for sure they'll be back tomorrow with another fiver, and the day after, and the day after.

Maxed out cards are a bastard, cause most people who are maxed out first of all need to get below their limit and then get some spending headspace. So if you put say, 50 quid on card bill, you might be left with 20 spendable, but then the buggers might hit you with fees and you'll be left with a tenner and the porn you want is 11...But 50 cash is 50 cash. Its one reason people get into such trouble, they max out the card then revert back to cash and don't even pay the card bill.

The number of models I shoot who have PAYG phones to "save" money. The per minute cost is double, yet a fiver every three days feels like less than a fifty quid bill at the end of the month.

I hate to say it, but dealing with models gives a real insight into how, some people, deal with money. And it ain't pretty.Besides which, these pre-pay cards won't pass any kind of age verification test, which the processors are going to have to start implementing pretty soon.
Very good point.

How about prepay scratch cards sold in newsagents or sex shops? ANYTHING** that avoids a monthly bill via regular banking or CCs is going to be a good thing.

*I forgot, you can't afford to own a car in the Peoples Republic of London, but I guess you still have to buy fags or milk at midnight? :)

** Unless it involves MJ or PBP cause he's still not forgiven for bumping that thread.

Seriously, anyone here thinks that a stock market crash is going to stop people wanking?

No excatly the opposite, stock market crash, not much money, cant
go to the pub so I will have a wank.
Make it affordable to the punter. The £5 wank! pay by phone.

No but it also doesnt stop people eating, driving wanting to go on holliday, needing clothes, needing somewhere to live/ But all are effected in a recession

The difference is, we are the only industry who provide our product for free in increasing quality, size and quantity

I don't even get a free wank off the wife! It always costs in the long run.

If it is quality content the punters will pay.
I know there is a multitude of free porn out there but from what
I have seen 90% of is shit.
Porn surfers standards have dropped.

OTOH it could increase ratios. with less money to spend, surely one of the things to cut back on would be internet access. kids get it in school, for checking mail you can use libraries and web cafes, no real need to have one at home.

those keeping private accounts obviously have money to spend. low level prequalified surfers, if you wish.

eating
clothes
rent/motgage

go along with those, but, there's no difference now between having a free wank, as opposed to having no money and getting content for a free wank (ok there is, but not so as we'd all make that many less sales imo that we'd be fucked). Sexual release is so ingrained, and needed, that in my opinion, a stock market crash wont be the end of our biz, by a long shot.

It wont be the end of wanking and wont be the end of paying to wank.

But nothing is recession proof, porn included.

If, sorry, when the next recession comes, it will effect sales in shoes, sausages, sky tv and wanking.... the advantage tesco's has over us is a) you mrs wont moan when she see's you have spent money on tinned beans instead of busty German blond tarts and b) there isnt a shop next door to Tescos offering large tins of free beans

This time round the porn biz will suffer mainly for it's own stupidity - And we are all guilty of slinging so much stuff out there that any guy really doesn't need to pay a single penny to get jerking.

I remember years back when maxcash (I think) introduced a weekly email to affiliates and one thing they made clear was this: Any images or videos you use for marketing, make them small, over compressed and cover them with site names - Never give the good stuff for free.
Brilliant advice -
What do we see now - Full length top quality videos and image sets all over the place -

No point saying where the root of this problem lies - Don't even think a heavy recession will put it right - But it will clear out a load of programmes, that is certain.

Which should give us the chance to repeat the same mistakes as before -

There is a recession now waiting at our door - I think this one could be bigger than anything I have ever seen before. I think I will watch it from my golf course.
