We had a lot of fun with this photo on another board and thought maybe you might wanna have a go at it.

Doesn't really prove anything, but it does tell you a bit about the way some folks perceive the world at first glance.

Now I have used this pic in another thread, so if you've already seen it, just pretend you haven't.

Try to empty your mind before scrolling down

and when you get to the pic

try to take in the WHOLE scene

then ask yourself

"What's the first thing I noticed."

Last time, there were quite a few funny responses

Tell you the results from last time later

so as not to mess with YOUR perception :noway2:

Ready?

What's the very first thing you noticed?

Here you go....

To be honest it tells us very little the reason being is that our eyes are trained to read / view from left to right, top to bottom, in most Countries at least (Think about how retail outlets display prices, it's always in this manner)

If the sexy girl with the tits was in the position of the bloke then that would be the first thing we noticed.

I can't see a chainsaw!

It's in the garbage bag.

(BTW: THAT'S the first thing I noticed... after the big gut. Shame on me, eh?)

Did you know (Oh crap, here he goes) that in North America, stores are built to steer customers to the RIGHT, because that's the direction most of them tend to go when then enter? Maybe ASDA does the same thing in the UK? Dunno. For example, the Supercentres put their fresh side on the far left of the big box, because they want customers to see all the other crap they have featured. They'll get to the food eventually.

Personally, I think it's the incongruities we notice more than anything. If the old guy wasn't there, it's totally obvious what we'd notice first. Or even if the guy had been younger and fitter and not been carrying a garbage bag, etc...

Well that may be so but irrespective of where the customer goes or where foods etc are displayed in a store the prices will always be to the left of the product for the reasons I mentioned above, it is ingrained in us from the moment we start learning to read & is carried on throughout our lives.

Yes, you're right about that... unless you're in Asia :geek:

But every good retailer knows how to use shelf screamers to get you to look at certain things. People will always check out "clearance" tags, for example. Doesn't matter where you put them. Even Amazon does that on busy pages.

But getting back to the photo, once you've noticed this old guy standing on a hot beach, surrounded by younger and fitter people, you may stay focused on him long enough to notice

a) his big gut
b) one suspender holding up his pants
c) the garbage bag
d) the fact that he's NOT looking at the attractive girls, whom you've subconsciously stored away in your memory for future reference
