How many people here promote sites that you know have traffic leaks on their affiliate tour? If you do, why? How do you decide whethter to promote it or not?

I am looking for sites to promote and a lot of them that I am coming across have traffic leaks of some form or another on their affiliate tours.

Some it might be an inconspicuous 'links' or 'friends' link in the footer. Others have these links quite prominent in the main navigation bar and they might have banners plastered all over the landing page too. Some have separate 'stores' where surfers can buy DVD's, picture sets etc and the affiliate gets no credit. All of them are exit points where an affiliates surfer could go instead of the join page that you want them to.

Is it a case of looking at the site, sticking up some promo and watching to see what the earnings are per click? Or do you just stay clear altogether?

I prefer building own tours so that all the leaks are mine.

Well that certainly narrows things down a bit?

Then you can make your decision based on the way they have their join page/sign-up pages set-up and whether you want to use deep linking on the CCBill side or whatever.

If you build your own then you would need to ask permission as a lot don't allow "direct to join links". Just mentioning it for others :)

The other problem with it is keeping track of it if you were just to link to say

http://site.com/join.html but then the sponsor changes it to http://site.com/ccbill/join.html.

You end up with dead links.

I have done in the past, I'm not really sure how it affected signups on the programs I was promoting but it tended to be smaller programs run by solo bbw girls that had traffic leaks plastered all over them.

That is the unknown factor. There is no way of telling how much you could potentially be losing. So I guess if the site is still making you good earnings per click it might be worth continuing to promote it. A lot of people won't out of principle I am sure.

Some of the sites I am talking about are relatively small too, some are very new and don't actually understand the concept of having a separate affiliate tour that is leak free.

Some of the sites are quite big and have been around for years and they are being promoted by experienced webmasters too. I guess for them, the numbers must work.
