Very pretty - too many buttons for me though - I just need a stop and go button and someone to remind me to take off the lenscap

Nice one. I'm guessing they were a decent purchase then? I've read a lot of good things about them.

Oh I leave the lens cap on all the time still. Someone needs to invent a little gadget that pushes it off automatically when you hit "record" ;)

Ive seen some movies being posted on here lately (no names mentioned) that would have been graetly improved by the lens cap being left on :eyebrows:

Yes, they are great. More light sensitive than the old VX's but you need to speak to xcite-tv as they are the guys that really know what they are talking about with HDV :)

Not that impressed.

I use a sony pd 170

that has a lux of 1, while this is only 3, plus i prefer the mic to be seperate.

Does it take dvcam tapes? if not its no use to me.

its nice, but not nice enough.

Are you being serious? The old PD170 is not even in the same league as the new Sony HDV.

No one uses the onboard mic on any Sony and yes it does also take DVCam tapes if needed.

I am presuming that you have not seen anything shot on one of these then?

i can think the quality is much higher.

i will get a hdv soon.

just a shame its lux3. i find with lux 1 on my pd170, you can get away with a lot more. I think you will needs lights for this camera.

Are there any sample clips from it that i can check out.

Are the file sizes bigger?

Yes, you do need to use lights with HDV but the quality is far higher. Everything we shoot is on HDV now.

Have you never used proper lights with your PD170?

SGS, I've forever been impressed with the quality of your video. What lighting do you use?
All I use is two domes tic outdoor 500w halogens rigged up on cymbal stands
but really need to get better.

Pretty much everyone uses Ianiro Red Heads and/or Blondes but we will be moving over to "cool lights" in the new studio.

Thanks a lot SGS, looking round those two links I think I could bankrupt myself with everything I want

Was looking at the Sony cam posted up there ^ @ £2,999 and notice Prestons have it for only £2,089 ?
That's an unbelievable price difference!

If you go right back to the VX1000 all those years ago and the launch price it really is superb value for money.
