psl

Motorists face two years behind bars if caught using a hand-held mobile phone, under tough new guidelines. Those caught texting, adjusting their sat-nav, or tinkering with their iPod could also face the same punishment.

It will never happen -
At the beginning of the 20th Century you were jailed for being gay.
Then they legalised it
Then they brought the age down to 21
Now gays are asking for the legal age to be 16
I left the uk before they make it compulsary.

Carrying a knife can get you up to 5 years in jail.

Up to now no one (unless i am wrong) has got to prison for carring a knife.

There are lots of these laws that never seem to happen.

Its like the on the spot fines. No one has yet ever been served one.

You also have a problem in proving it.

Unlress you arrest somone and they say yes they did it, you have a problem proving it.

After all unless you have filmed somone, how do you prove it.

It will probably end up with fines anyway as another way to tax people.

so they should - thsi new rule about mobiles in cars seems to be having little effect, everyday I see people on the phone while driving including coppers!

12 month ban and your car taken off you and crushed should solve the problem, if you get in the car you should drive the thing not be chatting on your phone.

Mind you the number of people who pull over in stupid places blocking up roads so they can make calls is on the increase, since the laws were introduced it seems it is OK for people to stop anywhere if making a call.

If you're too stupid to drive and talk to someone, you're too stupid to drive. Next thing you know it will be illegal to have more than about 9 pints and drive. Fucking madness.

So using the factory fitted sat nav in our car could land me in jail....

What about the complex BMW I-drive system.... or the cd player?

what about that pesky control most cars have to change gear?

its all bollocks and they can shove it up their arses

I'm gonna stick me neck out here, call me a spaz if you want :noway2:

Personally I've always thought that having a conversation whilst driving is complete madness.

Govenments around the World in my view have got this horribly wrong, I dont think it's relevant whether you are physically holding a mobile or whether you are utilising an ear piece, it's the actual distraction of trying to split your brain between the conversation & driving a ton of metal that is the real danger, both use up brain power & require you to be alert, concentrate too much on the convo & in a split second you'll be up the arse of the car in front or worse, I don't accept the argument that people smoke or change gear etc both of these are second nature & repetative habits thus freeing up the brain to concentrate on the road, as I say it's the distraction of engaging the brain to think of the convo itself where the real danger lies.

As for not being able to prove that you were talking at the time of your accident, well, all the phone co's keep records of course & there is masses upon masses of CCTV's out there which are gonna catch you out *most* of the time especially if the accident is fatal & the Police / authorities really go to town & investigate fully.

My view is probably not popular but I really think that to talk & drive however you do it is bloody dangerous.

Forgot to add, next time you're in a car & the drivers phone goes (Be it by an actual phone or ear piece) watch what happens to their driving, from the moment they realise they've got a call the driving normally starts to get a whole lot worse, rapidly !

would you get pulled over if you drove a novelty car shaped as a mobile phone? :)

Am currently in LA where practically every other driver seems to be talking on their phone whilst driving.

Due to be outlawed in California later this year, apparantently.

I am not normally a fan of Governments interfering with our lives, but to me this particular law does make sense.

Yes the law in this Country has got its priorities right, my local paper http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/Teenagers-who-killed-driver-left.3761269.jp two 15 year olds get youth custody one of them for just 12 months after killing a guy when they dropped a 44lb breeze block onto him from a bridge.... Fucked up or what...
