Switched the tv on yesterday - first time in about 6 months and the sky card didn't work.
Does anyone know if sky are now blocking cards from being used outside of the uk or is it simply a case of being off line for so long, it needs to be re-set again - In which case, I am fucked because the box would need to be re-set up in the uk, I think.
Anyone know anything? (about sky..)

It seems it could be because you were 'offline' for so long. I use my Sky card at my house in France when I go there. I take it with and its usually fine but once it wasn't so I called Sky from France and said there's a problem. They said they needed to send something to my box/card which they did within minutes. They had no idea I wasn't calling from the UK so I don't think technically it makes a difference where you are.

its just going to be that it hasent been used in so long, a quick call should sort it out
Mine's working fine here in Denmark, so I don't think they're blocking from outside the UK

Do you just get a blue screen?
Try this...
Drop power to the box for 3 mins, re-apply power and wait another 3 mins, then hold down the back-up button on the box and press the TV button on the remote and then the Sky button on the remote.
Might work might not.

Not with the chip sky cards - The phones probably go through uk profit numbers, so would be useless abroad - (Not that the phone plugs would fit anyway)

except service updates are sent via the satalite signal! The only reason they want you connected is the box can call home, for two reason 1) so you can pay sky for PPV movies/Sport 2) so sky can record your viewing habbits for marketing reasons.
