Cheers pushcube, a lot easier to follow than the instructions on mozilla.org - I'll be back in about 30 minutes either cunting thunderbird off, or saying you are the bollocks...

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL together, Windows Task Manager window should pop up. click on the 'Processes' tab at the top and look for 'Thunderbird.exe' in the 'Image Name' list on the left, left click on 'Thunderbird.exe' and then click on the 'End Process' button that on the bottom right of the task manager window. then try :)

Yeah I did all that, it was renaming the folder that was causing a conflict rather than a process running. It's still a cunting piece of software, what a load of bollocks trying to set up multiple email accounts that use the same hosting username. Shoulda stuck to OE...

Did you perhaps have a hard shutdown last night and scandisk when you booted this morning?

I've had it before that after having to shut the pc down with the off switch cos windows shutdown just hung that some profiles were corrupt after booting again and scandisk doing it's thing. I lost bookmarks, mailwasher profiles, typeitin profiles and some others I can't remember now. But going to the FOUND folder and opening each file in editpad I found all the supposedly corrupt files and actually nothing was wrong with them, I could just rename them to what they were supposed to be, and place them where they were supposed to be and all was well.
