right, when paying in your cheques you have to endorce it on the back with your name. everytime i go to the bank they tell me i'm doing it wrong! at first i put my name in block capitals, no good says the lady, needs to be a signiture. so next time i turn up with more cheques, having signed the back... they tell me i need to print my name in block capitals!! nuts. anyway, last few times i have been using block capitals on the first line and myy sig on the 2nd.. i hope that way i am safe.

what do you guys do? also has anyone ever had a $ cheque bounce? worries me becuase my only income now is $ cheques, if some bounce now i'm f*cked!

Cheers.

Hi Tom1

We use our local Lloyds Tsb branch to bank our cheques and everytime I go in, I get someone who's never seen a US$ cheque before. Drives me mad. I had the same thing with them over signing them to endorse them. They said, the endorsement should be legible, not a scribble for a signature.

So what I do now is put this...

"My Name For And On Behalf Of Company Name"

I write it quite scruffily, but still readable... has worked fine for about a year now.

With regard to cheques bouncing, we've had one do it... to yonks for the bank to notify us, like 6 months, and they don't give you any notice that they're going to take the cash back, they just debit your account without warning you :-/

Hope that helps.

Cheers

There's one guy who works at my local NatWest who insists that I write my address on the back of US$ cheques, rather than just sign them.

I make a point of avoiding him now.

I make sure I sign them in front of the teller ... has to be my full name as per name on the cheque. Never had any problems with bouncing.

I make sure I sign them in front of the teller ...

exactly.

i also use a small branch office, so everyone knows me there. even when my usual contact is away and some reserve pool employee replaces them, there is never a long debate. as soon as they get a questioning look, i give one of the other staff a wave and they come over informing the newbie they should just go ahead, everything is fine. :D

USA checks are suposed to be signed in full.

ie if your name is Fred Smith, you must sign Fred Smith not F. Smith or Fred S.

Agree with dvtimes, you should sign the cheque (or check as it is american) with the name which appears on the cheque, in full. I had a couple of problems when I used my normal signature but never since I sign as it appears on the cheque (or check as it is american).
