I was just driving at 42mh in a 40 zone (1.20 am) and I passed a speed camera.
Sudenly there was a lot of flashes.
I am not sure if it was from the machine or firworks.
Do these things flash, as I almost wrote the car off with such a bright light.

Yes they do. You might get lucky though, not all of them are loaded with film. The cameras are static and they move the film around from one to another. Limited resources etc.
If your cars speedometer is accurate you will be OK. All vehicles are allowed a %10 leeway by law.

Yup here there all flash. Thats including both the portable location/car ones and the fixed traffic light ones. Also the new doubble speed/redlight ones, dunno if you guys have got them yet.
When you speed up to beat the red light it flashes, so you can get dicked twice.

i recall getting flashed in front of a school once, maybe the 70 mph were a tad over the limit, but hey, i was late for me plane.
and it was a Sunday 4.30 pm, in case you worried about the kids. :D
it was a single flash and nothing ever resulted from it, might support the number of flashes theory.
wonder what the 2 flashes are for, first one to avoid red eyes? :D

it seemed to come from the camera.
but as i say, it was that bright i was blinded for a second.
i had been driving for 3 hours in the dark, so my eys had got used to the dark.
that flash just seemed deadly on my eyes.
i am hoping i get a ticket as i will know then it was the machine.
i shall also contact the police to tell them that whoever is responsible for the speed camera must surly be comiting an offense, as it surly must be coursing accidents.

you know, they have a killer argument against yours there: don't speed and no flash will blind you. ;)

Possibly not relevant in this cases but the Gatso style cameras which take a picture of the rear of the car flash - the Truvelo forward facing jobbies dont (for obvious reasons). Only way you know you have been done by one of those is when the ticket drops through the letter box. They are becoming more and more popular (despite the price) as it takes a picture of the drivers face as well as the reg no etc hence doing away with the defence of you not being the driver or not knowing who the driver is etc etc.
The worst of all though are the SPECS average speed ones which are becoming more prevalent esp. in roadworks on motorways - up until a few months ago the only places I knew that used them was what seems like everywhere around Nottingham and Sheffield but they are now on the M6 between junction 16 and 18, M1 around Leicester (Jct 21 - 20) and the M62 just after Warrington heading to Liverpool (Jct 10 *I think*) to name but a few. Its dead funny though to see these people who bomb it through road works, slowing down when they see the SPECS camera and then speeding up again afterwards cos they think they are traditional cameras and you just sooooo know they are gonna get busted and not be able to understand how :lmao2:!

Here they got a diff system they leave a parked car on the side of road, no driver/passenger in it and the camera is on the front grill of that car. No wonder people are always bitching about revenue raising police.

Got a letter through post last week, wanting details of driver etc saying car was doing 50 in 40 limit.... but thinking back I know I was in a long line of traffic along all that road, stuck behind a mobile crane.... wasnt doing much more than 25 for about 12 miles.... I got 3 people in car who will verify that point...... Should i write telling them that and ask them to provide proof???

Yep, then they send a picture which is so fucking clear you can see inside the car.
I got three in one week a year ago. 9 points in a week. I had to give the slut 3 of them otherwise I would have lost my licence.
By the way, seen a few people saying they run out of film. Not to likely these days as they are all digital and the pics are on hard drives these days. You would have to be lucky not to get your pic taken these days

DV Times, have you had a letter through yet about the camera flashes, if so, ask for proof (the gatso pictures) so you can check it out
