I'd have thought life for a webmaster would be pretty cushty in the states, and after looking a property prices today I see that my 3 bed terrace would buy a nice 5 bed detached, with cellars and a double garage in many parts of the US. Canada looks rather tempting too!

Have any of you guys every thought about moving?

What are the pros & cons?

America doesnt appeal to me, few places do as it goes.

A mate of mine is badgering me to go and check out New Zealand ... he moved back there a couple of years ago & reckons it will suit me and mine down the ground. pretty tempted too.

I lived there for a year when I was 13.. ended up hating it and came home without my family and lived with an aunt until my mum gave up and came home too.

Time dulled the memory and 12 years later and after a couple of 2 week holidays there I attempted the move again as an adult. Lasted 2 weeks this time before they drove me absolutely mad and I cut my losses and came home. Holidaying stateside and living stateside are 2 different things. I don't think I'll get tempted to try living there again.

It is my opinion that mercans are not as helpful and friendly when you're trying to live in their land as they are when you're just there to spend your money and piss off again. They give it all the "front" (talk) though, but it's all mouth and no trousers.

I wouldnt want to live there. Perhaps a holiday one day but not live there. For one, I hate guns, two all this bullshit with bush going on.

I've thought about it many times...

For me it would be Vegas or NY to live. Vegas because of the weather and NY for the fun and friends I have there. I thought about the Keys but with hurricanes that went down the drain. Property is so much cheaper over there. I found that I could buy a 5 bed house in the Keys and and with obviously selling my place here which is 1-2 bedroom loft, I would still have a 6 US$ figure sum to start with over there.. It is very tempting

Max Hardcore raided by FBI, Extreme Associates trials, and now some nut wanting 2257 to apply even to private couples filming themselves and adult video store tellers, even for mere nudity or simulated sex, plus huge taxes proposed for adult businesses just to punish them for being adult while guns get tax relief?

Doesn't sound very cushy in the US to me. Canada may be better! In fact anywhere must be better these days for a webmaster/adult business who doesn't want the feds knocking on the door and the threat of a jail sentence or at least a very expensive trial which ends up proving/disproving nothing...

Then again if all the 2257 shit gets thrown out, Max Hardcore kicks their asses in court, it could make life rosy their once again, but personally I would prefer Holland or France...

If it comes to moving to the EU.. Spain and Portugal are the popular destinations..

One more reason to stay away. Even running a story site can land you in hot water, in a country that's supposed to have free speech and a constitution..

We thought about moving to the US a lot of years ago when we were being raided regularly for selling topless photos back in the late 70s early 80s (the dark ages…) but wouldn’t consider it now.

Like a lot of people we have an LLC in Nevada and we have (finally at fucking last!) sold our place in Spain and we have absolutely no desire to move away from the UK now.

They have less freedoms of speach than pretty much any other western democratic country. I cant think of anywhere in the west less free

Apart from a lot of the coastal areas of Spain now being a complete and utter shithole filled with miserable northern European pensioners property prices are also going sharply into decline as supply is outstripping demand by a considerable margin.

It seemed like a good idea at the time but we wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

I agree with ya, but I have to admit I do like my beer at room temp. But then again I only like Guinness.....

The States is scarry right now, ask me again in 2008
