I honestly think UK webmasters are on the verge of making alot of money. Lets face it, US college boys will stop being webmasters, 2257 has finished them. That will leave europeans, most who dont speak English and UK webmasters who understand the market.

Lets face it in terms of quality and quantity of sites we are 5 years behind the U.S, but if we all really made a push and stepped it up a gear we potentially could be making a mint in the next few years.

We lack that professional element they have got. I know people will now jump out the woodwork and say we dont, but we do, if we can only work together and step it up a gear we could all be minted :drink:

Maybe, but I do not think many sites will close, unless they are not making much cash.

It only needs payment systems (such as ccbill) to only take payment for sites that are 2257 complient then many will be stuffed.

peddling porn is a service in the entertainment field, and those - service and entertainment - are a US domain. it's like in movies, they don't really make the best quality of movies, heck many of them are just remakes of asian or european ones, but usually the most entertaining when it comes to the show elements in it.

Thel'l close allright. They are closing already. There is no doubt of that. US college boys wont fancy 5 years in prison because of record keeping. They are closing already, Ive seen 3 good webmasters this week alone close who I know.

Yep Ive seen some who I really thought could ride it out, not even small time, but guys I know make a ton of money. Three really good contacts this week pack it in. This is just the start, I dont think people realise what impact this will have. Plus there will be no more US newbies. no one from the US will start up and give his home address to the feds and all the right wing extremists

That's the only good thing about this crap.

A number of my USA-based clients have shut or will be shutting their accounts down before July 3rd. I have also had a HUGE interest in our Netherlands-based hosting, mostly by non-US based webmasters who just want to get the f*ck out of the USA!

There have also been official notices already issued from some affiliate programs, such as http://cockscash.com, saying they are closing their doors.

This is going to be a bigger shakeup than the visa-fee intro was a few years back, since this hits every US-based webmaster not just paysite owners.

Once again, I have to stress how nice it is to not be living in the USA!!!

cheers,
Luke

Have they closed for good or just tempory?

If I was in the USA I would shut down for a few months just to see what happens.

I bet in 12 months they will be up running again.

Most are waiting for a court injunction I guess?

I really think most of these people will just move on to other things. But like I say I think the impact will be more that you wont get to many newbies from the U.S

I think its rather too easy to think that 2257 will lead or has led to sites closing down.

Many have closed long before this law came out.

Some could be simply due to family or personal presher, and other due to the religious pressers in the USA.

I also think some sites go way over there heads. Many seem to set up fancy affiliate schemes, buy lots of content, employ several people. As such this costs lots of money and time. The result some presumably go bankrupt.

What will be more interesting will be those sites that are ccbill sites, as they have lower running costs, and so less reason to close.

One simple option is for people to simply move there sites to avs systems where the servers are non usa hosted.

Agreed. I speak with many US network owners and all I see is them passing it over to their lawyers to figure the loopholes. I don't see them hurting because of 2257. Adapt or die, it's just another hurdle.

The US webmasters won't lie down and die. yes it's just another hurdle for them. But by the same token it is and opportunity to push the European industry forward
( business is business ).

There will be a window of a few months ( maybe more ) when non-us webmasters can capitalise on the situation, it's up to us how we handle this. For sure cooperation with other non-us sites is the way forward.

I am not sure if cockscash's shutdown is temporary or permanent and I would not be surprised if they did not know yet either! And yes, I agree, we have to see how this all plays out in the courts - only time will tell if those that are packing up will be back.

cheers,
Luke
