View Full Version : Appears Sexmoney spams unconfirmed emails you collect
last week, on the 16th, i redid a site and put a Sexmoney email collector box (email cashbox as they call it) on there. to test if it actually worked, i used one of my 'test email accounts' where i dont care whether they are spammed or not and put it in. as there is double opt-in, there was no harm in doing so, since you aren't credited for mail addies that do not confirm.
i did receive that confirmmation mail, liked that the cashbox worked in the right fashion, deleted the mail without confirming it and went to do other things.
next day, i started receiving Sexmony spam on to that account. using a whole different webmaster ID and a domain not registered in Sexmoney's name but redirecting to an according site of theirs.
fine, so this could be coincidence, some tosser plays a prank on you and sigsn you up, shit happens. clearly Sexmoney wouldn't spam without double optin, right?
so i went and set up a brandnew email account. it was called willigetsexmoneyspam@[domainname].com and virgin as it was, i put it in that cashbox field. again the confirmation mail arrived asking me to activate the subscription, i deleted it again.
for days nothing happened. had i really been target of a practical joke? did i suspect Sexmoney to spam non confimred mails for no reason? or did they just have a clever filter recognising the test character of the email account's name? days went by without anything happening.
until today, when "Mary" <mary@funmod.tv> sends me a nice mail asking me to join http://www.funmod.tv/?ml=1&MID=10041802&WMID=61935&Spon=CJB
funmod.tv is regiestered to some czech guy, the webmaster ID is obviously not mine again, yet the page redirects to a Sexmoney tour.
to say i'm not impressed is putting it mildly.
i could live with not being credited for collected emails, worse things have happened and we aren't talking about amounts that make anyone rich.
we are talking about email accounts being spammed without having confirmed they want to receive that information though, and by clever choice of their email, people can trace back the spam happens after signing up at my site. nothing i need.
Ive never tried sexmoney to me they seem to have 350 sites none of which quite hit the spot.

Plus if they are willing to not pay you out on that what else are they willing not to pay you out on
we had a bit of a funny thing with them last year, started using their banners on 2 TGPs and had 5 sales within a couple of days. 4 of which charged back basically right away. funny part was, the payment period ended before all 4 CBs were done, yet the payment already minded all CBs. of course i assume the webmaster stats aren't quiet as up to date as their own stats. :)
we pulled everything Sexmoney related from our pages anyway though.
i did print outs of all the various stats showing the funny numbers and was meant to meet our Sexmoney rep at Meat's BBQ following the boat party in August 2004. shit happens and she had to take an earlier flight then.
interesting detail, the one not charging back is still recurring after over a year.
which is why i thought we'll give them another try, despite practically everyone i talk to telling me not to.
seems it was a site update well wasted.
As I told you HF, I am not wondered at all about this. I know the main programmer from SM for a long time (btw, he is from Austria :D) and he did some jobs before his SM time for me. I know from him, that they even can't track all referals because of the pgm's they are using.
another interesting detail, since i set that cashbox up on the 16th, there was exactly 1 (let me spell that out: ONE) email sign up credited, it seems to have happened on the 19th.
now this very same spot had an email box before, the CE Cash one, and made quite some numbers on a daily basis. to the surfers nothing has changed, since i use an own layout, not the one given by the sponsor.

Did you ditch cecash's ezines altogether?
Did you ditch cecash's ezines altogether?
nah, just on this one site, as it's designed to attract german speakers. having a german or multi language sponsor for the email signups seemed a good move, considering CE Cash did well already. obvously i'm going to undo this change.

You condone spamming those who clearly did not double opt-in then?

Learn to express an opinion, should you have any. So far all you appear to do is shoot your mouth off like a machine gun, but it's never anything one could take serious.
Go on, explain what else you meant. There is a major difference between using direct marketing and spamming accounts that obviously haven't opted in.

well this is a hard one for me to be dead open about - I been fortunate enough to see Sex Money close up and learn about their business.
They do a lot of things that you and I or other people would not do at all. Their entire business model is built on upsell's and cross sell's and for people who dont join they get hit with a trial then a free join, bascially what ever it takes to convert.
Its not fair for me to comment on whether their mails are opt in, though I do know that each webmaster has the chance of their ID being used when they send out a mailer to users they have joined their site. They do this as an added bonus and its a pretty good value add for would be partners.
You asked if I thought it was OK to mail people who did not opt in - well I done it in the early days though soon realised it was not something I could carry on doing. SM doing it is wrong esp as they have all the systems in place to build opt in lists.
And yes I do go on like a machine gun esp when the freaks come out with their sick content :-)

not caring about their direct marketing style, caring about them spamming accounts that clearly haven't clicked the link in the confirmation mail.
people do wisen up, it's not uncommon for them anymore, to use email accounts like [the-site-i-signed-up-at]@my-domain.com - which results in them getting a Sexmoney confirmation mail to the account that's clearly been used on my site and then a shitload of Sexmoney spam if they don't confirm their email, again to a mail account they used on my site only.
and since Sexmoney doesn't even have the fucking balls to spam in their own name, it must look to the surfer like i was spamming them.
awesome, really.
only just got around to removing that fucking box. 1 hot signup credited in 11 days. right.
now where was that mass emailing tool thread the other day?
I am not surprised by this at all, I was contacted by their Florida office and I was asked to do all this work for them, without getting anything in return. They wanted me to put their links all over out stuff when they would not do the same. When I asked why they would, Their anwser was it would not be in out best interest." Then it is not in my best interest to bust my ass for you then....
I laffed and deleted him from my list.....

feel free, i don't see what needs looking into though. seems pretty obvious to me. :)
i was wrong about only getting one spam though, there was just a one day break, both accounts get the same spam mails every day now.
have a screen shot of today's.
the WMID isn't mine (which would have 4 digits). http://www.firstgate.cc/?ml=1&MID=10041847&WMID=67624&Spon=perfectm

so how did Arty get my unconfirmed signup's email? an account specifically created 5 minutes before i entered it into the cashbox? an account not exisiting before, not being used before and never having mailed out anything? ;)
the link redirects straight to vodpornos.com, supposedly Sexmoney's top selling shit these days.
@HF
About 3 to 4 Years ago, SexMonkey's have used MailKing to send out the spam :lmao2: and the where wondering that after a short time all there IPs are blocked at the main ISPs.
they can deliver their spam manually, for all i care. :D
why they use emails that haven't agreed to be 'informed' about their stuff is the question.

IBill hast a special contract with these kind of guys (all the other payment processors) You even get a special accountent who will handle all stuff for you. And if the abuse get's to high, he/she will oben a new accoutn for you and transfer everything to this new account and you do not have to care at all. That's the service of the processors. But of course, do not ask them for something like this, if you do not make at least 200.000$ per month

I take them off too, but it is taking a while to look into this. I personally don't care. I don't use them for anything and never will :)
if it takes half as long to get any information as it took the first time, it's gonna be another never ending issue, cos i wait for proper answers since August 2004. :lmao2:
and we moved on to buying porn DVDs online, still spammed by Sexmoney, still to an account that was never used for sending mail out, still an account that hasn't opted in for being spammed.
