Does anyone here cut their own checks for their affilliate programs - I am trying to weigh up the pros and cons and working out how to cut US dollar cheques from the UK without it costing me a fortune...

Do you think the yanks would be put off if I was to cut sterling cheques?

I am ideally trying to move away from paying out the 15% per transaction that companies like CC Bill are charging.

I need a company that has has an afilliate stats program/interface I can intergrate into my own afilliate site, and have the ability to cut the checks and cost not to be through the roof - any ideas would be appreciated.

I think I recall some programs getting other companies to cut the cheques for them, such as using WTS. But don't quote me on that.

From another place...

paychex.com (http://www.paychex.com/)
paycycle.com (http://www.paycycle.com/)

We did look into it ourselves a long time back when we were thinking about going with cascading but that was a long time ago.

We cut our own cheques at the moment. We have a $ account with NatWest and they issue $ chequebooks (or are they technically checkbooks?).

I don't see how writing your own cheques would free you from the 15% CCBill fee though. They take that off you before you get your money, it's a fee for processing, not for paying your affiliates. Unless you're doing cascading billing & using your own affiliate tracking (NATS / MPA3 etc) then there's nothing to be gained by writing cheques yourself, especially since most people trust CCBill to pay them on time, and you would be an unknown quantity. Is it even an option under CCBill?

Anyway, enough waffle, it's payment day & I have cheques to write lol

We sent out sterling cheques to the Americans once, while we were waiting for NatWest to deliver our $ chequebooks. I just enclosed a letter explaining that the next payment would be in $s (which it was), but we wanted to get their money to them rather than make them wait even longer, and that they could simply take our £ cheque into their bank & it would be honoured. I still got one email asking what the f**k I'd sent them, but they were cool when I explained it again lol

So it looks like £ cheques aren't too much problem for the Americans, but since it's so easy to get $ ones, you might as well give them something they're familiar with.

OK, now I'm *really* done waffling.

Please buy a machine to print the address details :) what was sent to me was ended up six doors down, I know I called you about it today though I think this is also a good tip for anyone handling out payments in house.

WTS has stopped that cheque writing service because we asked them last month - something to do with the patriot act and terrorism/fraud. We just opened a US dollar account at natwest like Sterlingcash and they give you a US cheque book. There are charges though.

if you get a fairly sized (preferably laser) printer you can get an add on allowing you to mass print straight on the envelopes therefor avoiding buying a spezialized tool that only does one job. ;)

Sorry I have missed half of this thread and thank you for all the great input on it all.

Paycycle wont accept non-us customers.
Not sure I like the look of the other one.

In regard to the 15% avoidance I am looking into the option of using a company like worldpay to process the transactions here in the UK. Far cheaper.

I'm not even considering using CC Bill, I am put off by the $750 setup charge and the fact that it took 2 days for a question to be answered.
Paycom EU I was told can't cut the checks (feel free to correct me if i am wrong).
I am looking at pay buy net, as they seem helpful, offer a personal service and have plenty of billing options.

Daveydude - the fact that 'someone' kicked up is enough for me. I don't really want to piss people off just for the sake of something simple.
How much does NatWest charge for you to write a US dollar check?

With the US dollar account have you told them that it is for a business?
...and do you have a sterling bank account also?
if not how do you deal with bills etc for your company?

Seriously, sometimes I go so long without writing anything down I lose the power to write. Like when you were at school & then went back after Summer holidays.

I write with caps lock on so I can understand myself later.

fully know what you mean. my hand writing sort of vanished over the years, damn computer typing. if i don't do capitals, which i do since 15 years basically, i cannot read my own scribbling a day later. matter of factly i am just as fast doing caps now as i'd be with proper writing. horrible that.

As far as I know you don't have to pay CCbill the $750 fee if you're based in the EU. Am I correct there, anyone?

Worldpay don't accept adult sites, "We cannot accept companies that deal in adult services" - https://support.worldpay.com/partners/partner_faqs.html
Seems like there are no UK payment processors who will touch adult stuff. I'd love to know about them if they do exist.

Dude, if someone complaining about some aspect of your business is gonna put you off, quit now. Seriously.

Yes of course the bank knows our $ account is for business. We have a sterling business account with them as well. The $ account is purely for paying US affiliates in their own currency. I actually don't know if there's a charge per cheque. I will find out.

I think that you really need to do a bit more research and learn a bit more about the bisiness before starting off down the wrong road there.

re ccBill and $750 charge.... I think its $1500 not $750 and its a visa charge that ccBill have to levy on US accounts. EU accounts at the moment do not have to pay this charge, but i suspect they will sometime in the future.... Also suspect Mastercard will jump on the bandwaggon soon.........
But why would anyone want to do their own cheques???? Unless your making enough to pay someone to do it... who would want to sit down every week going through the sales of 300 odd affiliates sorting out charge backs etc..... referral commissions....... god ccBill are worth they're weight in gold for doing all this...
