As a follow up to my post about the luke warm muslim response to the recent terrorism I'm happy to give credit where it is due. We need more of this.

"Unlike in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States or the 2005 bombings in London, where some young British Muslims saluted the terrorists, the latest terror plot drew nothing but condemnation here.

"We are not going to tolerate any racists or terrorists coming in and dividing us," said 23-year-old youth worker Javed Aslam.

Pointing to other young Muslims gathered around him, Aslam added: "If one of these guys supported any terrorism, we would all let them him know that we were ashamed."

Several hundred people—from Muslims to Quakers, teenagers to trade unionists—rallied in central Glasgow's George Square on Saturday to denounce the attacks. Blue and white Scottish flags fluttered symbolically alongside banners that declared "Terrorism Has No Religion."

"We want to send the message that this country is united," said organizer Osama Saeed of the Muslim Association of Britain. "It won't be shaken by terrorism."

This is the sort of response that should be welcomed.

I applaud them.It is nice too see a community rallying to show their allegiance against terrorists.

I think that, perhaps the reporting of the supporters of terrorism to police as opposed to 'telling them' you are 'ashamed' of them would benefit the fight against terrorism in a more proactive way.

I'd guess tho it would depend if the person just gave verbal support to terrorism or were actively helping terrorists. The one is free speech, the other is terrorism.

True. The Gov can't take away the right to free speach but it would be prudent to watch anybody that voiced support for the terrorists.

It will be hard to keep and eye on anyone who merely voices support for terrorism.

"Cells are popping up everywhere. They're spreading like a virus," one unnamed senior security service source was quoted as saying.

"The frustrating thing is that we cannot keep them all under surveillance. It's really only a matter of time before one slips through the net and we get another bomb attempt."

The Sunday Times said at least one of the five suspects in custody over the failed London and Glasgow attacks had been in recent contact with al-Qaeda in Iraq.

If you wanted to keep an eye on all the muslims who admire Al-Qaeda this would not be possible.

"7% “admire organisations like Al-Qaeda
that are prepared to fight the West’. 13%
of 16-24 year olds agreed with this statement
compared to 3% of 55+ year olds."

On a positive note, here's a website that condems the jihadist terror.

The Islamispeace.org.uk site was good to see.

Whoever kills an innocent soul.. it is as if he killed the whole of mankind, And whoever saves one, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind”

[The Holy Quran, 5:32]

What I cannot seem to grasp is why, when the muslims believe the above from the Quran, the current terrorists aline themselves with the muslim faith or use the muslim faith as part of their reasoning for attacks?
