... right now i dont care coz I'm sick of running around in circles.

Anyone fancy letting me in on the lucrative secret that is how to make your videos downloadable?

I feel down right stupid for asking but there you go lol. I'm pretty sure it's very easy and simple once you know, but when you don't ... well its quite difficult

Call me a dumb blonde if you like .....

And you can all spank me for not knowing too if it will make you feel better :spank:

If you upload them to your server, and link to them, they should be downloadable? Surfer might need to right click to save as, otherwise way browser is configured might make them start playing instead...

What you do is simply create the link, ie: ...film.wmv

People will click on it. Its there pc that the box pops up to ask them to save or whatever. So do not worry about that.

???

age, location, to see if the spanking is on!

I think you can force the file box with ASP or something, but personally I would give visitors the choice, as there is nothing more annoying than trying to watch a file as it downloads and being forced to save it...

Am sure the :geek: s on here will have an answer, but I would give the user the choice, or zip the videos?

Hmmm ... see that link was just streaming, not downloading onto my pc ....

LOL see told you dumb blonde!
18/manchester .... and i hope ur not still at old trafford ....

I want to be able to stream the videos or give them the option to download, meaning the videos are fully downloadable. I've seen it done on sites before, where you have the option for high quality or low quality, then streaming or download, as four links on a page. Streaming is embedded into the page, and the download link brings up the save as, then saves it to whereever you asked it to on your pc.

Didn't think of zipping the videos. You mean put the zip file on the page, let them download the file thne unzip it and play it on their pc?

Oh god im so baffled! Haha!

Yes you could do that. Or just tell your users to right-click on the link and select "Save Target As".

Yeah but it looks really .... naff lol

how do you force the box? coz i think then i could give two links, one to open up the streaming, and one to open up the download dialog box.

Use a thumbnail of the vid then it does not look as bad.

to be honest i have been in the mebers area of some top sites and thats all they do.

One is a vid site and the links are just text. very basic. but the vids or top notch.

if these are in your members area, i would not worry too much. i do not think people will be disapointed. better to have it simple and work than clever and not work.

Something like that. Just an idea.

The sites you mention probably used ASP to fool the browser, but it's geeky...

I think you will save yourself a lot of headaches if you just go for the "save as instruction" - just keep it simple :)

let's face it, even for a one handed typist, it's not going to be too much trouble.

it doesn't look naff, it's just the way the web works - I just looked in one of the UK's biggest site's members areas, and it says "Download video" and when I click it started trying to play it - and a developer built the site.

Alright then .... fair enough.
I guess I'll use a still as the link with a bit of text telling the member to right click and save if they want to keep hold of it.

I guess if the best can't do it, then the newbie shouldn't even try :(

Cheers guys much appreciated, I'dve spent ages trying to figure it out lol

And the funny thing is ... I'm not even blonde haha

More important than this is to have several screen shots from the movie so the member can see if it's what they want to download. It really pisses people off if they wait 10 minutes for a movie to download only to find the movie is not what they hoped for. That's my thruppence ha'penny anyway.
