My dad is a postie and aint in the union so wont be striking - not very popular with his colleagues and in the minority across the company I guess but he can see beyond the hype and realises that if Royal Mail wants to continue to exist as a commercial company and fight off competition (most of which is pretty unfair to be honest but thats another story) then they have to make tough decisions and not everyone will be happy with the outcome.

I would strike if they were making 40000 people redundant. Its not a pay dispute, they are opposing the royal mails plans to put people out of work.

What if it was necessary to make those redunancies to make the company competitive and to stop competition putting them out of business? Im not saying it is or isnt as its not something I have looked at in great detail but the fact is competition is increasing on a daily basis and they HAVE to trim down to be able to compete!

Change for any business is good, as long as it increases profitability and provides the customer with a better service.
130,000 workers, 40,000 to go, streaming lining to compete.
Bring back Maggie Thatcher she'll sort the cunts out.

I'll tell you something else, none of the posties near me smile like that, they are the most miserable gits ever, the thing that bugs me most is if they've got something that wont go through the (Communal) letter box they'll ring the buzzer, but fuck me you gotta be quick, I'm talking Linford Christie style here, you've got 10 seconds to get down the stairs, if that, before he fucks off & takes it back to the depot afterwhich the chances are it's gone for good !

Unlike DHL and/or UPS who when they deliver parcel and your'e not in they leave a card. Then you ring the depot and normally the driver will deliver the parcel when you are in, either later that day or the nextday, but when you are in your house.
And
They don' t knock on the door as if you live in a 40 room mansion and your at the back of the house.
The amount of postmen I have nearly twated for waking the whole family up at fuckin 6.30 in the morning.
RANT OVER........

im also fucking pissed of with the greedy cunts at the royal mail. got an important delivery that should of been coming tomorow but thanks to those bastards its not gonna get here.
used to order fags through the post from abroad, at first they used to arrive but as soon as postal workers realised whats inside they started nicking them. i personally recon they should get their wages cut in half for being (most of them) greedy dishonest wankers.

Question:

1. Is it comapny policy for postman to be allowed to carry pets.

2. I am sure postaman pat misused his van for his own use. Again iam not sure if this is company polocy.

Have you watched postman pat recently? I think they have changed the theme tune!!!

I like postman pat.

The thing is, he only has ten letters a day to diliver, so its an easy job, not sure he diserves a pay rise for that. Plus he has a free van, and probably does not pay for the fuel.

The girl who does parcel deliveries in this area drives around with a german shepard in the passenger seat of the van. Must be for security or something.

The postal workers really do need a kick up the arse. As I understand it, they have set hours but get to fuck off home if they finish their rounds early, without loss in pay. The Royal Mail want them to go back to the sorting office and work out the rest of the hours they're being paid for by doing other duties, but the posties don't want to.

My dad is out at work as usual this morning and no doubt is getting abuse from his co-workers for doing it!

have to say, where letters are concerned, we pop it into nearest post box, if royal mail lose their monopoly, where do you go every time you want to send a simple letter? just say there are 5 major letter companies delivering letters, are there gonna be new post boxes on the streets? how do we buy the stamps for them? Maybe in a mobile phone way where we can use a top up card regardless what company you are with? I myself prefer, for letters, one company does all eg. RM as it is at the mo

I prefer the Royal Mail to collect and deliver the mailbut I think they need to get their act together. If they don't we will find yet another british company in foreign ownership.
I think they should start at the top and work down, employee wise.

good job you quoted sarcasm cos I for one found the rail great when it was British Rail, not privatised! cant remember trains being late as they are, or excuses of leaves on the line...

None of the private companies want the consumer mail business - RM loses money hand over fist on that business and relies on commercial mail to make money but they are being squeezed tighter and tighter by private companies on these big contracts and in a lot of cases RM actually ends up delivering the end product even though they didnt win the actual contract! Its bonkers!

Thats why they are fucked. They quote for big commercial jobs and don't get it because they are too expensive. Another company gets the job and then contracts the collection and delivery to RM and company B still makes a profit. So why doesn't quote for the job at the price it contracts to company B for? To many layers of management, just like the NHS.

I would like to see a business that has to handle XXXXX millions of letters a day and not got the odd one lost.....cant see a private company handling that...lets face it, when things get privatised, they have to answer to shareholders, prices increase but service remains poor!

DHL,UPS and Deutsche Post!

We all know RM has restrictions placed on it by Gov but that is no reason too perform consitently poorly. Many of their services are excellent its just a percentage of the workforce that lets them down as well as a number of their services.
I don't think there is any quick fix.

06-29-07, 08:11 PM
well when it comes to letters ect rather have one body delivering it,,,too complacated to give to private firms....lets say for instance you not paid your bill so you get penalised for it,you do not get deliveries unless you pay up, where with RM you will get that letter, its just too big to privatise IMOP

psl
06-29-07, 08:18 PM
I agree that RM is too big to privatise but I think they should bring in a commercially savvy CEO and board and pay them accordingly.
Prehaps then RM might be able to move forward.
