View Full Version : Starting new site and stuck at first hurdle HELP!!!!

Anyone out there with an ear and advice?
have designed my site through photoshop all looking very sexy and great, done everything right, left the photos of so i can upload them onto my host and place them into the pages on dreamweaver so its easy to change them when i have updates.
was about to put a front page up as a test just so there was something there other than the godaddy parked page, when all of a sudden I was hit in the face HARD!
putting all the right details in site definition and pointing the page to my server everything looks like it should work yet when i test it all i get is a damn message saying that the server is not responding.
been talking to my host now for the last few hrs through email and they stopped replying, think its lunch time or something for them. I have no idea what is wrong and everyone i talked to has no idea either!
what am i doing wrong! I feel like just getting someone to upload the site for me and sort all these bugs out!!

Try uploading a blank page called index.htm and see if that works

haven't even got that far,
im trying to set up the remote info in dreamweaver so i can upload a page anypage, and when i test the conection it says that the server is not responding.
Errrrrr the URL reponds and so does ftp.maskedtemptress.com - can you connect via an FTP client?

It connects for me. Is the domain name still propogating? When did you change the dns info for the domain?

It was a joke.
Some chap came in here at the weekend and caused a bit of a stir.
Have you tried connecting using filezilla yet, like I said 6 hours ago?

Can take up to 48 hours to propogate...

Its going to be a DNS error, some DNS servers can take up to 48 hours to propogate depending on who your ISP is - try using the IP address instead of the domain name and see if you can connect / upload to that.

I had an emial saying it was done so took their word for it.
i have tried the IP same thing.
you know im getting to a point where i just want someone to upload the site for me and be done with it!

Drop me a PM and I will give it a shot from here and at least try and eliminate your computer/ISP etc

The nameservers will be changed but they wont be pointing correctly yet which means you'd get a server not found or whatever response. It all depends on who you host with. Mine propogates in a few mins, some hosts I've used take the full 48 hours.
Im getting the cent os page... this server is ready to go...

So... Give it another go now... Post results :)
Should be loading now for some anyway - works ok here but think DNS is still be a silly bugger so not everyone will be able to see it.
I can see it Black with pink letters, coming soon :)
