Ok so I avoided using this since 1802 but a while back I set up an account, anyway... today I had an e-mail trying to download since 11:30 I have since stopped it.

Is there a way to get rid of the e-mail without having access to the server?

use www.mail2web.com and view emails online then delete it from there.

or if you know telnet you can telnet to the server

I would say no unless you can get on the server via webmail to delete. Constipated mailboxes are a pita

edit: I'll shut the fuck up then.

Not via Outlok Express as far as I know. It's probably an email with a huge attachment.

Do you have access to that account via webmail? If so you could go in and delete it off the server that way, otherwise contact the hosting support and ask them to delete it from the server (some will others wont).

Yeah I was hoping to catch someone on ICQ but no one is around :(

I have just had a thought, I think i might be able to do it with the chameleon confirmer. I'll have a look at the link above as well, thanks all :)

I think I need a few posts to add a link, but email-remover.com has worked for me in the past when I have had email stuck.

To check POP email via telnet start by entering the following command at the command prompt:-
telnet [HOST] 110

replacing [HOST] with either the IP or mail server.

Once the connection is open you will get a welcome message from the server. For example:

+OK QPOP (version ?) at mail1.onlytease.com starting. <27817.1068823435@mail1.onlytease.com>

You can now login using the USER and PASS commands, for example:

USER paul
PASS password

Once the mailbox is open you will a message like:

+OK paul has 9 visible messages (0 hidden) in 101087 octets.

Now you can issue any commands to control the mail box. The commands are as follows:-

LIST - Lists message in the mail box. It will show the message number and message size in bytes.

RETR [msg no] - Retrieves the contents of the message (msg no).

DELE [msg no] - Marks message to be deleted (msg no).

TOP [msg no] 0 - Retrieves the message headers (msg no).

quit - Quits the session and deletes any messages marked for deletion.

MARK SURE YOU ALWAYS QUIT THE SESSION USING THE QUIT COMMAND AND WAIT UNTIL THE SESSION IS TERMINATED, OVERWISE THE SERVER MAY NOT REMOVE THE POP LOCK.

I use Mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) it lets you see what's on the server beofre you download it.

MailWasher is something that ive used for a few years now and deleting direct from the server is a great plus point with MW

http://www.mailwasher.com/

"View your email before it gets to your computer - now you can see what email is waiting for you so you can deal to it effectively and safely.
Delete unwanted email before you download it. A great way to stop viruses or large attachments. "

Wow.... HF are you making up new definitions involving me now? I am honored..

I have had bad experiences with Outlook. We have a guy who does photoshopped pics and Outlook goes into freeze and shuts down trying to open his emails....

Love ya :character0088:

Thanks for all that but I can't do it. I used to know telnet and could fuck about with it but I have forgotten everything. Thanks again though

It'll be Ok if you can delete it, some bright cunt at a company I worked for once tried to email a 360mb brochure to everybody, and brought down the whole mailserver until it was deleted.

Hopefully not an important mail account.

it should only download header info

unless the mailbox is fucked up. had that twice with faulty attachments. needed to go right in and delete the mails manually.

Geezer

Yeah but it has to get onto the mail server first and its not doing that :(

No, its not really a big deal and I was just wondering if there was a way to do it with outlook. Its not an important address really.

Isn't there a way to reject messages over a certain filesize in OE? I haven't used it for a while, but could've sworn there was that feature.

you can leave messages over a certain size on the server which then will download just a header, this then gives you the choice of downloading it or deleting it. however, i believe it's gone beyond that for Geezer and he cant login to that pop account.

I did a system restore, not with fixing this problem in mind, but today everything is working fine. So it was either something at my end or the server has been sorted. All back to normal now :)

I still think this thread has been useful so I'll await my prize with excitement ;)
