View Full Version : Hurricane Relief with Mike Myers & Kanye West!!!
I have not said much about what has happened in Louisanna and Mississippi....but with anything else that the US gov't does it just makes me sick to my stomach....
I have been away for a few days and I got to watch CNN....
They stated that the state of Louisianna did not ask for help and that is why it took so long for help to arrive.....cough cough....BULLSHIT!!!
People were calling into a local News station here in Toronto asking what have you done to help out the victims of the Hurricane....the second person that called in said this, "i feel really bad for the people that had to experience this, but with the United Stated being one of the richest countries in the world, they can more than afford to take care of this disaster without the help of outside countries."
They also mentioned that the US Gov't were waiting to see how much the Celebrities were going to donate of their own money.....
Celine Dion - she donated 1 million which is pocket change as far as I am concerned but then again it should not be left to them donating, the Bush administration should be taking care of this......
I must say I don't know what the other media outlets are like around the world but I have to say that CNN takes the cake, I think they are just here to scare the shit out of everyone.....

Guys be real - lets look at the numbers and stats here:
1) People were told and I quote " to haul ass and leave the state" this was about a week before it happened
2) The area effected is the size of the united kingdom
The easy thing to do is blame someone else, Bush yep I no fan of his though how on earth he is being blamed is beyond me.
What I thought was shocking was seeing all these people choosing to NOT help themselves, instead people from their community turn it into an opportunity to rob, rape and kill.
Bush never sent the storm, Bush never destroyed their homes & Bush can not under US law just send who he likes into another state.
This is no ones fault, no one is to blame and bitching at your leader who the fucking people voted to do the job not so long ago is not going to help. The people there should think themselves lucky, if they had been in India, Africa they would be getting no help at all.
Anyone can blame someone else, thats the easiest thing in the world, standing up and saying its my issue and I will deal with it is harder and no matter what anyonesays Bush has done the latter.
The sad thing about all this is the people, they are mostly black & uneducated - if the US rolled up in your town with 100K people who fitted into the above bracket would you make room for them in your hometown.....
These people are being moved to places where their fore fathers were burned and ridiculed for being black people in the 'white states' want to look after and house these people as much as we want to house people who flee to the UK.
Personally I think its an awful situation that no one is to blame for and that WE all can do something no matter how little to help.

Its easy to tell "the projects", where most people don't even own a car to evacuate hundreds of miles in event of a hurricane. If someone told you to get the hell out and you had no means of transport, you would do it?
No one said the storm was Bush's fault, they are angry at how long it took to send aid - even Bush himself said it took far too long. How hard is it to send supplies and food from neighbouring areas? When you consider how rich the country is, it's a piss take they didn't do something quicker. Even the UK has sent over half a million meals.

The US has declined all international help - so I really am unsure how we sent meals.
Even if we did send 1/2 million ready meals thats not even a drop in the ocean..Its pretty hard to send food to a place that resembles Venice without the roads.
If you want to talk timescales you have to look at the project, you can't just send lorries etc into a area thats been fucked by mother nature and is flooded. The logistics are a nightmare and having gunmen on the street means even more planing is needed before you send aid workers in.

well, time you got real. leaving the state assumes a means of transport other than your legs or a wheelchair. poor people do not own such means, despite the popular opinion that everyone in the US owns a car.
renting a car is not possible without driving licence and being at least 21. something that hit many a tourist.
also public transport, if available in first place, isn't free.
2) The area effected is the size of the united kingdom
The easy thing to do is blame someone else, Bush yep I no fan of his though how on earth he is being blamed is beyond me.
he is not blamed for the storm, he is blamed for his administration - which is rather capable of sending and catering for 100s of thousands of troops all across the planet - fucking up after the storm hit.
Bush can not under US law just send who he likes into another state.
matter of factly, he is the one that can. when the NO mayor and the governeror stated they had declared martial law, it was soon explained that this power isn't theirs, all they could do is give the executive forces more powers, martial law is a federal thing. so Dubya had it in his hands to make a swift move, declare matrial law and send in troops to help out.
Anyone can blame someone else, thats the easiest thing in the world, standing up and saying its my issue and I will deal with it is harder and no matter what anyonesays Bush has done the latter.
and later than needed too.
The sad thing about all this is the people, they are mostly black & uneducated - if the US rolled up in your town with 100K people who fitted into the above bracket would you make room for them in your hometown.....
the room wasn't made by the people, but by using old army and public buildings.
on a side note, gun sales have skyrocketed. shops report they sold more in the last days than they do in a whole year usually.
fun ahead.
The US has declined all international help - so I really am unsure how we sent meals.
you must stop buying last week's newspapers. ;)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4216370.stm
they also asked the UN for support. and if Dubya didn't have his head that far up his ass, he could have managed to get cheap fuel and oil for the poor, Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez offered to help there right after the storm, delivering and dealing straight with the local distributors rather than through huge companies.

i'm not sure if you were in the army, so you might not know this.
i was, as an engineer. and that situation is exactly what engineers are there for. we can assume the US army has engineers too.

No I was a distribution manager setting routes up for multi drop drivers who were delivering goods on behalf of the old Eastern Electricity Stores.
The REMI from what I know build bridges for tanks to go over and a number of other things though they are basically part of our war machine they are not civil engineers.
You try and organise just one lorry, with one drive and then send it to a place where the thereare no roads. This is not going to a be an instant thing - some one has to fill the wagon, someone has to be found that is willing to drive it there and someone has to unload it.
We are not talking a about a couple of thousand people here this type of stuff is not resolved over night and given the size of the USA moving resource to the region will take a lot of time. From what I understand it takes 6 hours to go coast to coast by plane.

More excuses, come on, if I had to leave town to save me and my family and had no money no transport I would walk, if I were in a wheel chair I would ride the thing to some where safe.
Ifthe old and sick can not make then they have to stay behind, they are already lletting people die who they can not save, thats nature thats the way things go sometimes.
When the 9/11 and also the tube bombings hit things were different, people walked often miles to get back to where they needed to be. Also when there were the big power cuts in the US people walked miles and miles to get to where they needed.
Granted the had a place to go - some where to head to so why did'nt these people do the same? There was a guy on last night they knew the storm was coming so stocked up and decided to stay.
As I say its shocking whats happened though people of that area need to stop bitching and get on with their lives by pulling and working together to fix the situation.
I still want to know what happened to all the people in jails in that area, there are one hell of a lot of prisons out that way

that's why i wondered if you were in the army. not having been there, is an obstacle in seeing the whole picture. :)
try seeing it less war related. the engineers make it possible to send machines troops and equipment to the worst places. trust me, that bridge, that secured road, that raft, neither of them care if tanks or civil trucks use them. ;)

hello? anyone listening? the army has members it pays for driving lorries. it also tends to order its members to fucking do the job.

so we agree there shouldn't be a problem having men there in 24 hours then.
again, we are talking what the army is capable of. had you been in it yourself, you'd also know that there is always at least one part of your troops on high alert. these guys do not go home, they are on the job 24 hours. if they are allowed home, they have to keep contact or have to make sure you can contact them easily, so they can report back ASAP in an emergency situation.
More excuses, come on, if I had to leave town to save me and my family and had no money no transport I would walk, if I were in a wheel chair I would ride the thing to some where safe.
you are quickly approaching a state of ignorance there.
where would you walk to? what would you eat and drink, how would you pay for it? where would you live, how would you pay for it? where would you get yourself and your clothes cleaned, how would you pay for it? where do you get your medications, how would you pay for them? families have children, how do you get them sorted, from nappies to proper food, how would you pay for it?
mind you are walked away from home, you are not on the job you may have had and aren't able to claim your benefits, if you get some.
your wheel chair comment is highly offensive. first of all it takes a path good enough to roll, secondly most wheel chair users are ill (surprisingly that's why they are in a wheel chair).
on top of that, apply the previous housing, eating and medical issues, as well as the payment question.
let me also throw in your own previous statement:
2) The area effected is the size of the united kingdom
i'd say you walk across the UK without money and let us know how it was afterwards. feel free to use a wheelchair for the task.
Ifthe old and sick can not make then they have to stay behind, they are already lletting people die who they can not save, thats nature thats the way things go sometimes.
i wish to apologize for my previous comment on you just approaching a state of ignorance. it's obvious you arrived.
