Is/has anyone given to any Hurricane Katrina charities, or do you think the richest country in the world should be able to look after its own?
IMHO - how can a country have aid on the doorstep of countries in SE Asia whenever something happens, yet leave its own citizens short of water and food in its own backyard days later after something like this?
I am in two minds about whether to donate to this, or continue to donate to other worldwide charities. Trouble is, things like this prompt knee-jerk reactions, and i don't want to donate to a bunch of people who will shoot each other as soon as they get the proceeds, :mcdonalds

I'm just amazed and confused by the whole thing. It looks like a third world country out there. I'm not sure if I would donate either. It seems to me that over the last 20 years the US has continuously argued against any attempts to stop global warming and so stop so many disasters like this happening. Have argued against any fair trade for developing countries who if they were a little richer could maybe donate.
I like you am also appalled about the behavior of the people left there and absolutely amazed by the reaction from the government over there who is apparently the most powerful in the world. Yet they are letting there own people die.
On top of that, I've been watching Americans say that the infrastructure of the cities over there, including things like the flood banks here have been left so America can fight for oil in Iraq and also because the various governments have wanted to pump money into suburbs because that's where the key voting areas are.
It may be a case of, you made your bed, now its time to lie in it
But added to that, it seems that these people have lost everything and the US has over the years been a good Alley to the UK and have also given billion and billions in aid around the world. So maybe its time for a few of us to step up and give them some help. I wouldnt want to know that people are suffering just because I dont happen to like they government they have. Even though they voted them in
The first day after the hurricane the police start looting. Simply amazing
