View Full Version : How Do I find "Friends"

SWALK

I have a page on my site www.swalkxxx.com for links and at the top it says Friends of SWALKXXX. My question is - how do I find some friends?? I am new to this and from a retail background (we have a licensed sex shop) so the whole idea of getting links and affilliates is filling me with dread, because everyone I talk to says - you need loads of content, content is king, you need tgps, you need free trailers etc etc etc.

I am continuing to film and adding more content every week and more pictures, but this will take time, how do I get the "friends" to believe in the site, even though I have only just began and am not as "big" as their other "friends"

I have included promotional leaflets in our dvd releases through UK shops and just started distributing into Europe, however, I know this is not a huge audience, it is a start, the web has a huge audience, but without the traffic from affilliates/links etc I know I will struggle, can someone point me in the right direction.

I am a hard worker and a quick learner but just need that little bit of help to get started. I am not asking for any secret methods to earn loads (not even sure if there are any) or loads of free help, just advice in layman terms as not yet savvy with all the technical stuff you guys talk about.

Many thanks in advance.

Wendy

Sorry to "hijack" the thread but had a look at your site and I like the design for the tour etc but your join page looks terrible and its possibly the most important page of all - have a look at it and get it looking the same as the rest of the site as it would certainly put me off signing up as a punter so Im sure it might others too!

Thanks Jase I will do that, but I am pressuming I do that via my admin panel in ccbill, but whilst doing it, I don't effect the site at all do I?

Ditto... A Strange looking page indeed, and when something looks 'strange' thats not good...

I'd say for you to get a standard looking join page set up asap.

Familiarity is a good thing... Surfer needs to feel 'at home' as they reach for the credit card... and putting something 'unfamiliar looking' in there path, is sure to 'break their stride' :)

No its the HTML and backgrounds etc that it needs on both the join.html and ccbill/index.htm page(s)

If you have a quality site with quality traffic people should be more than willing to trade links with you. There's no easy way to add tonnes of good links though, just a case of scouring traffic trading sections of this forum (and others!), and talking to people who run sites in a similar vein to yours.

One thing though - it's not a good idea to have a links page on a site that webmasters are sending traffic to. It's considered a leak - lessening the chance that surfers sent by affiliates will stay on your site and sign up. Most serious affiliates won't send you traffic to a leaky tour.

For our sites we have two copies of the same tour, one with links, one without. All the affiliate traffic goes to the "clean" tour, and the other is reserved for our own traffic and type-ins. So for example you have domain.com with a links page, but your affiliate traffic goes to domain.com/tour or whatever.

I am in a right mess now, I thought I had the basic ccbill join up form which I had seen on other sites, went into ccbill and got totally confused. Ok will check again now.

Thanks Daveydude will have to look at that properly.

Noticed something else - when I click to join, I get a page with 3 price options, which take me to the CCBill join page which has the same options on it. I'd lose the first page as it's a pointless extra click. You can edit the CCBill join page to add your own graphics etc, probably plus some reassuring text that signing up is safe & secure etc, and reminding the surfer of why they should be joining your site.

Thanks Daveydude will have to look at that properly.

No problem - someone else would have pointed that out sooner or later anyway.

If you've only got the one site in your CCBill account, ie, your site is using the "0000" subaccount ID, you can just change the tour URL setting in your CCBill admin for that account so that affiliate traffic goes to a different tour, eg, xxx.com/tour. If you have more than one subaccount and affiliate URLs have the actual domain stuck on the end, it's a bit trickier to swap the tours over if you already have people sending traffic to your plain .com URL.

A comma would have helped

You are in herts too, close to us

is what I think he meant

Thanks Towlie, but why do you say too near to us?? why would this make a difference? Or am I being thick here.

Lol I think its might be down to a lack of punctuation!!

"Oh i also see your in herts, too near to us" OR

"Oh i also see your in herts too, near to us"

Get yourself onto a few good toplists for a bit of decent traffic. You won't get tons of traffic from them but what you do get is good quality. Look for ones that have similar sites to yours.

Hertfordshire is rapidly becoming the UK's hotbed for porn producing, mark my words. Some thing to do with there being bugger all else to do...

Please guys, play nicely!!

Many thanks for the advice so far, already sorted out the link to the join page, having a bit more of a problem with the actual join page, but will work it out!

We shot our first film in Hertford, Hertfordshire, one scene in my shop, one in the sports shop and one in the jewellers, randy lot of shop keepers around here!!

finding friends is piss easy. go to any random message board, read a handful of threads, work out the cliques, find the biggest one, suck up to them, i'm sorry, that should say share their published opinions. presto.

Thanks everyone, most of you seem really great and helpful, so fingers crossed the advice will work, the rest of you are worse than my kids (only joking!), nevertheless I will continue to ask for advice and help as much as I can, by doing this things can only get better.

As for filming, would definitely be interested in the club of course towlie, I will give you an im soon.

Thanks again, must admit, enjoy a little chuckle when all the handbags come out.

What's everyones point of view on blogs - is it worth me doing a "Day in the life of a sex shop owner" with stories from the store and customers etc or wait until I have alot more traffic/content/FRIENDS!!

Thanks again.

Both Google and I are HUGE fans of blogs. Little story. When I was at Playboy, I launched a blog for them and a podcast (that was housed in the blog). I know very little about SEO, but did some basics.

The agency that were running Playboy's SEO were, frankly, about as good as toast at doing it.

Within about 7 weeks, my Playboy blog site was beating Playboy UK's main site on the term Playboy. It was beating the American site (with a much higher PR) on the term 'playboy podcast'.

I think, with a sensible 'keyword' hat on, with very little daily effort, you can create a blog that your readers will actually ENJOY reading, become engaged and more likely to purchase from you.

And Google bloody loves real blogs.

It takes a little effort. Read other good sex blogs. See what they do. Go to www.technorati.com and read their top 100. See what those guys are doing to get the readership they do.

Remember, that one of the best things about blogs is the comment system. It actually allows your readers to interact with you. Make the most of this.
