For some reason my bank has started to send letters for the USD chqs I send them -
I have never noticed their rates before now as they publish 1.75 though it seems they also like with anything else have a buy rate - the was a difference of 9 cents!
Anyhow looks like a nightmare they will now wait 6 weeks to clear payments though they say it often takes three, sting me on tourist rates then charge me for the pleasure to boot!

I wish I could clear chqs - looks like its a licence to do what the f you like
seems like it's rip off your customer week :D
i usually pay 14 euros for up to 3 checks, handed in 7 this week, so i assumed 2 batches of 3 for 14 and another 14 for the 7th check. so 42 all in all. asshats took 98 euros though, time for a lil chat on monday.
my bank took 6 weeks to clear first ccBill cheque... now they credit account in 5 days... get market rate.... but now at 1.82 :-( Wire transfer much better!!!!!!!!!
I got a us cheque for $250 and it took 70 days to clear, I personally have no idea what the banks are doing besides fuck all and charging huge amounts for service charges.....
it's mostly the US bamks fucking it up, it appears. checks usually clear within 2 days for us. we learnt this is only cos we are trusted customers. i opened another account at the same bank in a family member's name - the checks take 4 weeks there. on requiry as to WTF they think they were doing, i was told they only pass on the money once the US banks have sent it to them and we get preferred treatemnt with 2 days cos they trust us.

It takes ages for a US check to clear because the checks have to physically move around the world and stuff, but most banks will advance you the funds instantly if you ask them to and have reasonable credit. We get any cheque up to $100,000 cleared instantly - although it can be clawed back within six weeks if the check bounces.
Don't CCBill charge $30 for non-US wire transfers?
$30 is the ccBill charge for wire transfers......... Worth every $...... especially for me as getting to the bank is a 1 1/2hr round trip.... I suppose its down 2 how much your payment is from ccbill to see if its worth it...
Looks like the difference is only a few pounds now and my CCBill cheque is growing each week, so it seems worth changing to wire transfer at this stage.

8 per batch at lloyds - they just advised me they split my chqs - with some been held until funds clear - CCBill were credited the following day :)

If he starts talking about Tesco's bags just change the subject. :drink:
I use the Royal Bank of Scotland for my ccbill cheque and they now credit it to my account 7 days after I pay it in, they send a letter confirming this with details of the exchange rate and charges (£7 per cheque).
Until about 6 months ago they used to deal with it locally within the branch and I'd get the money that day but now they photocopy it and send it off to a central point for processing.
I think I need to look into wire transfers. I know the ccbill fee is $30 but I also think the bank has a charge for receiving a wire transfer + the £7 fee.
Wires are worth every penny they cost because the sooner you have your money the sooner you can put it to work for you. Waiting 6 weeks for cheques to clear is just bad business.

I think what they have done is split the chqs those that look less risky have been cleared the ones that are had written or USD's issued in the UK have been sent off.
They have never done this before - yes spoke with you last night will catch up with you on sunday monday dude :)
Please have a carrier ready ;-)
