was just looking at ccbill signup as a client and thats bought up a few issues!

CCBill EU is a VISA approved payment gateway and service provider or IPSP for EU-based businesses. If you are a EU-Based business and want to process transactions through the VISA network, VISA requires that your business (1) be registered as a VISA sponsored merchant and (2) that it is located within the VISA designated European Union Region.

In order for CCBill EU to process VISA transactions, you must provide valid proof that your business is based in a country that is within the VISA designated EU region.

Then theres having to register self employed with HMC, and with my case being employed, I would be both so may have to pay NI Class1,2 and 4!!!!!

I wonder how I can prove who I am, like when you open a bank account they normally ask for 1 of these 3 to prove who you are...

1. drivers license (I dont have one)

2.Passport (it ran out 4 years ago havent needed to renew it)

3.NI card (never got issued one when they came out!)

So how the fuck do I prove who I am? lol

Maybe ask for an NI card to be sent out to you? You gotta be on their system somewhere?

Not all banks require photographic proof. You can get away with a current firearms certificate, or shotgun certificate:)

Also a PAYE coding notice works.

We faxed a copy i think, but that was a long long time ago - in 2000 when i opened my first site. It was easier to open an account then than it is today.

more expense...just to prove I am who I am! grrrr! :banghead:£70 isn't a great deal of money, plus you can always use your passport as a... wait for it... passport, as well.

But it does highlight a big difference between working as an aff and running a pay site - as an aff you don't have to buy a lot of stuff that either doesn't work or has limited use. (Actually, I bet thats not even halfway true, I bet its just as easy to waste money, just on different things!)

Run a pay site and things you now get for free will suddenly cost money. A prime example being content. Not all of it will work, and unlike dropping a sponsor where "all" you have lost is the time it took to build pages and get some linkage, you'll be out of pocket on real cash. I say "all" as you shouldn't under estimate the value or cost of your own time, but somehow its never as painful as actually loosing cash money.

Once a paysite is up and running you don't have the option of just stopping till things get better or you find that new source of whatever it is you are lacking this week, so you end up buying stuff you know won't last, but will get you through till the real solution comes along.

I've been stuck in Spain with a broken camera, standing in a camera shop wondering which pile of crap (and really expensive) camera I should buy to get me though the rest of the week as mine had died, cause stopping for two days, flying home early or shipping a new one from the UK all would have ended up costing more than just gritting my teeth and buying SOMETHING right then, even though I basically new I'd never touch it again once the crisis was over.

and

so by the looks of it just license and passport :)

I know I had to send both cos I had to apply for a photo licence, I only had a paper one and I needed another photo ID. I put off signing with CCBill for quite some time because it seemed you needed so much shit. In the end I just applied and decided to deal with anything as it arose. It wasn't too bad and I got there in then end.

Great post. I think anyone who runs a paysite has been there. BTW, these costs that you are complaining about are just a drop in the bucket. I think if this is an issue for you, you might consider not doing a paysite. An underfunded paysite is a money pit.

To be blunt, if you want to get services from companies overseas to process your sales you need to get the above sorted out.

You NI number is nothing, it is not reconised as a valid ID, you need photo ID.

You can get a provistional driving licence which is acepted as valid photo ID and passport.

That's true of any business though, I run an electrical contractors as my day job, and I'm forever having to replace tools, or looking at unforeseen costs. It's one of the joys of being in business for yourself. I don't anticipate webmastering being any different in this regard.
